Recent events and non events leave me with a question that I don't know the answer to. Based on clicks/views on Youtube, there should be some support here for /bands such as Mötley Crüe Warrant Quiet Riot Twisted Sister Ratt Offspring etc Yet there is very little support here for them and I don't know why. It isn't going be the group of Deckard rimrocker Rashmon Mango Etc to carry the Flag for the bands mentioned above because we are associated more with music prior to the 80's and 90's.. There are some mentions of Jazz along with some Hip Hop and similar in this thread, but not enough so that it would crowd out Mötley Crüe Warrant Quiet Riot Twisted Sister Ratt Offspring etc There are a few random links to Country music in this thread, but again not enough to crowd out. the bands listed above if there was interest in them. The TLDR of the above is why are the responses here for the bands listed above not in agreement with the numbers/metrics/clicks at Youtube,.
All those bands you mentioned, with the exception of The Offspring, are considered "hair metal" bands and that's a genre that is critically reviled for some reason just like nu-metal. The Offspring were a punk band that got popular with "Pretty Fly For a White Guy" and then were on MTV all the time which led to many of their fans accusing them of selling out. I still feel that Smash and Ixnay on the Hombre are two really great punk albums.
It's not necessarily my cup of tea but this song and Nuno's solo (around 2:20 minute mark) is getting lot of buzz...
I understand that they had their critics, but thought that there would be at least a few supporters/fans here based on the activity at Youtube. For the support to dry up so much seems unusual to me.
Such a beautiful song in all it's interpretations. I saw Leon perform it more than once, but this is one of my favorites. In 1971, while staying at a "sleep-in" in Amsterdam during a trip of several months, I met a friend of Karen and Richard, someone, a saxophone player, who got to know them at California State. Like me, Dave was trying to extend his trip in Europe by staying at inexpensive places - the sleep-in was .50 cents a night. Later, we spent a couple of weeks hitch-hiking to Grindelwald in Switzerland and then back to Amsterdam. He spent more time talking about how genuinely nice they were than he did talking about their talent.
