What I'm hoping for is Nolan Smith 1-12 Washington 2-33 Trade into the 2nd using 3-64/ 4-103 for Scmittz. Best WR Available at 3-73. This draft would help this team develop an identity. Anybody got an update on Perryman?
I kinda wish that Shultz was a better pass blocking TE for the incoming system, but maybe he can play like Snake Dick used to play - those old cross grain TE passes used to be money with Schaub. Texans will need a great blocking H back/FB to add the blocking necessary at the point of attack. Singletary and Pearce should be a fun duo. Good deal.
It's becoming very clear that the run game is gonna be a huge part of the Texans offense next year. I know coming from San Fran that probably shouldn't be a surprise, but the skillsets of the players they've signed on offense seems to confirm that (save for the extension of LT). Good run blocking WR and now a TE as well as Singletary to give defenses different looks in the run game. That could be a huge part of getting a rookie QB comfortable in your offense and not putting too much on his shoulders in his first year. I know I feel this immense hope every offseason (hell, I convinced myself last offseason that Lovie Smith was gonna be a great coach for this team), so I'm hoping it doesn't all get dashed in the first couple months. But I feel better about the Texans than I have in a long time now.
Littlelon basically a backup at this point it looks like. Had a big year 4 years ago and not much since.
They are going to mess around and build an offense that's really good for 1 year and then loses half the team and the OC and then sucks again lol.
I agree. Surprisingly good signing. At least 1 reliable target for whoever the QB is would still take WR at 12, but a good tight end lessens the load
I think you guys are missing the point. The Texans have a boatload of cap space next year. Signing these guys and seeing how they fit is the right move. You can re-sign them or if they walk you probably get comp picks at least for any of them that start most games (Rankin, Schultz for sure). This gives you the ability to take BPA in the draft only taking position into account when there is no demonstratable difference in rating.
I have great optimism as well. I didn’t like the Lovie signing at all, but thought Mills was going to be the real deal. Anyway this has been a great off-season so far.
They may take a wide receiver in the first round if they trade down quite a few spots. I think DE or Carter if available is a more likely outcome. Even with the Schultz signing they might still go TE at 2.33 which such a talented class.
If Hyatt's there at 2-33 they may pick him. I would have a hard time picking him if Schmitz or Washington is there.
