Thank goodness for Dylan Disu. That might've been the worst game we can play and he willed us to the sweet 16. Hire Rodney Terry (unless Jay Wright wants a boatload of money).
Per Inside Texas: CDC is expected to officially remove the interim tag from Rodney Terry’s title at the end of this season. That’s according to multiple high-placed sources.
Everything is falling in place for a miracle for Texas. Unbelievable. Xavier won’t be easy, but everyone left is beatable, and a final 4 in Texas is a major bonus.
Incredible season. I was worried when Disu went down, but this team is so deep. I feel good about our chances against Miami considering how well we've played defensively in the tournament.
I stand by that caveat I'm still getting used to things under CDC and not the Good Ol' Dodds Boys Club Make it happen.
Yeah, I'll believe that the boosters don't have any influence once RT is the full time coach. They wanted Beard and got him, to the point that we might've hurt our relationship with Royal Ivey by turning him into a Rooney Rule token, so I'm still holding my breath to see if they insist we hire Musselman or Billy Donovan because the boosters know their names.
The problem with RT is that we know he can coach this group of players, but his prior HC experience was not very good, and we have no idea if he knows how to actually build a roster of his own or if he can recruit. It's sort of still an unknown whether he'd be a good long-term choice and how much of their success is him vs the rest of the assistant coaching team (from my understanding, there's like a 4-headed monster that does a lot of the decision making). It sucks to be everyone in this situation - RT, the admin, the players, etc. I hope they do give him and the other assistants a chance because they've earned it, but I hope UT's negotiates some kind of out-clause so they can move on in a year or two if he proves to be a one-year wonder. Of course, if they win the national title, you just give him a long-term deal regardless - and maybe if they just make the FF too.
Ya I might be a bit naive but it does seem that there has a been a changing of the guard. Edit: Just remembered that Sonny Dykes was apparently CDC’s first choice but was ultimately overruled. Football is a different animal though. Interesting take on Beard, thought he was undoubtedly the choice from all factions. I also trust CDC handled the Ivey interview appropriately.
