The team doesn't need to immediately sniff a title, but what it will do is immediately make the team competitive and relevant. This will accomplish a number of things. Fort starters, your youngins will get a taste for meaningful basketball whether it be playoffs or even just regular season, and it will also make your team an attractive destination for the next disgruntled star. Not to mention, the picks you give to OKC would not hurt as much. Lets assume you trade KPJ, Tate, and Sengun for Siakim (other small filler also required) and also draft Miller / Lively. Harden / TyTy Green / KMJ Miller / Eason Jabari Siakim / Lively II Harden will decline, Siakim should be at his peak, and all your young guys will be improving, so the team will still have upside. You should have an opportunity to add another piece via trade with the Nets picks to replace Harden down the line. I think it is a reasonable path forward.
If we got the 2nd pick would u draft Miller instead of scoot if u knew harden for sure is coming back?
Probably consider trading back in that scenario rather than just taking a different guy. Perceived value difference is high.
Say Rockets ends up with top 3-5th pick and ends up picking Brandon Miller. 6' 9", 200 lbs Listed as a forward Assuming current starter roster. KPJ ----- pg Green ----- sg KJ ----- sf Smith ----- pf Sengun ----- c Q1: Would you start Miller over an existing guy. Say over KJ, or you have Miller come off the Bench. Or do you shuffle KPJ around. Q2: a) How do you think Rockets would do it b) How would you personally do the lineup if you're the coach?
Dude kinda reminds me of McGrady .... not the most explosive athlete but silky smooth and gets to his spots where he gets open looks for himself or others & is a fantastic shooter. Before all his legal issues, I had him easily #3 on the board. With those legal issues and character concerns, I don't know where to put him.
If we get # 3 and take Miller then you hopefully are adding FVV or Harden in FA. He would definitely start over KMJ who at that point should be moved along with KPJ and the Nets picks for a disgruntled star.
Brandon Miller is a Paolo Bancheros type player, he is going to carry Alabama toa Final 4 this year. He is just a great shooter he is a scorer. He has handles, shoot and can pass the ball.
Hell no. We take BPA 10 times out of 10. Even if Harden does come back, and even if he plays well and meshes well and literally everything is perfect*, how many seasons of that does he have? 2? 3? I think 3 is highly, highly optimistic, and 1-2 is far more likely. So I would definitely not pass on BPA just because it would fit better with Harden for the 2 years where he's good enough to lift us to a play-in team. Not worth it; not even close. *And it probably wouldn't be perfect, because nothing ever is.
Under no circumstances should Kevin Porter Jr be anywhere near the starting rotation next year unless we're tanking again.
Compared to a lot of NBA players, no McGrady wasn't a crazy explosive athlete .... what he was as a 6'8" shooting guard was longer than most guys at the position.
