How many 20 year olds do you know that can score twenty at any efficiency with opposing defenses targeting you and gameplaning for you, hedging towards your side of the court, doubling etc?

Also this is where some basic eye test analysis comes into play.

Let's examine the case of whether Green can expand to being more than just a great scorer in his prime.

Let's ask a simple question. Why does Green score so much or generate a lot of fta for someone his age?

Elite dribble seperation and beating perimeter defenses. What does this result in? This results in defenses collapsing. When perimeter defenses are beat I'm sure you notice what happens. Interior big man or help wing defender comes to help on Green as he already beat his original defender resulting in a chain reaction of defenses collapsing.

Yearly in his career he misses many of the open teammates he generates from collapsing defenses. But what he is doing is creating open teammates. What the hope is between now and when he's 24 is that when he's that age he sees and accurately passed to those open teammstes he generates.

There are a lot of young players like RJ Barrett or Devin Vessel or don't score that way. They aren't collapsing defenses. They usually get open looks from teammates through cuts and spot up shots or do some contested fadeaway jumper or are a recipient of a drive and kick where their primary defender is flat footed already so they get a driving lane(the Chandler Parsons drive) etc. They aren't constantly beating perimeter defenses off the dribble with and without screens.

That talent Green has can in the fire generate a lot of assists. I mean that's basically how Westbrook got a lot of his assists. Dude isn't some laser accurate passe who sees the floor great. He just blazed by perimeter defenses, defenses collapse, open men get generated.

There is no doubt in my mind that Brody Westbrook is a good passer.

He might shoot horribly, he might be a turnover machine, he might be a bonehead defensively but he has decent vision.

That is one of the few aspects I believe in him.

He lacks a reliable way to score other than passes from his guards for the layup/dunk. Yeah his defense has been pretty good but thats not enough to be labeled a star, in fact a good defender but bad scorer like PJ Tucker is only seen as a role player and Tucker has 3 pt range.

If Jabari landed in Cavs pretty sure he'd look like the 2nd coming of Al Horford by now.

agreed, if he had ever learned to shoot or if he ever figured out how to play under control, he could’ve had a late-career renaissance like Kidd or something. But I don’t see that happening

Limited time and role is how you contain him.

And hope he has the mental capacity to not act out.

This will be the case for any potential rockets free agent.

That's just how it is when you're the worst team in the league (and not a destination city).

Anybody going to Rockets will want to get paid, at least harden skillset warrants it.

They don't dislike it, it's just not a destination city. Some will take slightly less money to live in Cali/NY/Miami. Historically, that hasn't been the case with Houston unless we were contending.

For most free agents the choices are either: current team, destination city, winning team, or highest bidder. With highest bidder usually taking precedent.

Only ring chasers should be taking paycuts. Everyone else is either insane or dumb.

Home factor can’t be discounted but yeah in general I don’t see him taking a paycheque discount for anyone. Especially given how well he is playing
