According to NBA sources, the Cavaliers have traded veteran forward Tony Battie and future draft picks to the Orlando Magic for forwards Drew Gooden, Steven Hunter and Anderson Varejao. The trade is expected to become official later today. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/9227151.htm?1c
They got some draft picks too, they just better hope Gooden doesn't become a star with Lebron, because they know Battie isn't ever going to be much more than he already is.
What difference does it make. He wasn't going to play over Howard. He is a black hole. He has a weird attitude. I really like what the Magic are doing. They have three good interior defenders/shot blockers and Howard can score on the post. If the get 25 minutes out of Hill per game they are more than solid.
Answer: Jimmy Jackson Gooden Van Exel Glenn Rice Question: Name at least 4 journey men of the NBA (with at least 3 teams in 3 years)
The rolleyes in my post wasn't directed at you, but at CD who has been trying to con-vince us fans that Lue and/or Ward are good enough to run this team. In fact, his suggestion pisses me off so much, let me throw out another for him!
Do http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1845337 "On Tuesday, the club acquired point guard Eric Snow from Philadelphia for Kevin Ollie and Kedrick Brown. The Cavaliers may not be done making trades, either. They have reportedly shopped guard Dajuan Wagner and center DeSagana Diop." Does anyone think the rockets could offer a trade to get these two young players. It probably wouldn't take much, and they could kill two birds with one stone. (get a point guard and a big man)
Its final. Associated Press CLEVELAND -- Needing to replace Carlos Boozer, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Drew Gooden in a four-player trade with Orlando on Friday, sending the Magic forward Tony Battie and two second-round draft picks. Drew Gooden Forward Orlando Magic Profile 2003-2004 SEASON STATISTICS GM PPG RPG APG FG% FT% 79 11.6 6.5 1.1 .445 .637 In their second major deal this week, the Cavaliers also got rookie forward Anderson Varejao and 7-foot center Steven Hunter -- a former first-round pick -- from Orlando. Gooden should help Cleveland offset the surprising loss of Boozer, who bolted as a free agent when he signed a six-year, $68 million offer sheet with Utah last week. The 6-foot-10, 242-pound Gooden isn't quite as good as Boozer, but he's young, talented and inexpensive.
second round draft picks? maybe second round will get you quality in the nhl, but it's dirt in the nba. wiesbrod is an idiot.
Chris Gatling .... J U W A N H O W A R D 2003 Denver 2004 Orlando 2005 Houston 2006 Golden State 2007 LA Clippers 2008 Miami Heat 2009 Bobcats 2010 Globtroters
If you traded... Battie (age 28), who put up 5.5 & 3 plus .94 blocks in 20 minutes. FOR Hunter (age 22), who put up 3 & 3 plus 1.2 blocks in 13 minutes. + Varejao (rookie, 30 pick, equivalent to a late 1st rounder). That deal alone would look pretty square. The Cavs essentially got Gooden for two probably middle 2nd round picks. Gooden is only 22, and put up 11.6 (45% shooting) & 6.5 & .9 blocks--by far the best player in the deal and whatever his limitations that is still a steal for the Cavs. In sum, Wiebrod is insane. Good thing the Tmac trade went through before that guy snapped out of his delusions.
I doubt that. Weisbrod still needs to string Cleveland around for another couple weeks, and see if there are any "better" offers out there.
It's been said before, but I'll have to say it again - This is what happens when you have a hockey guy run your NBA team. If I were the owner or coach, I'd be upset. I feel for the fans and the remaining Magic players.
Jackson was first traded in his 5th year Van Exel his 6th Rice his 7th Gooden has had a new team every year of his career so far
completely agree... didn't someone mention landing SAR once surely his thread about going to the Nets should be in the GARM
Gooden is a great talent but requires the ball in his hands. He's not the rebounder that Boozer is but he's not bad. Interesting to see if he meshes well with Lebron, as Gooden has stated before he wants to be a go-to-guy. I think him being traded so frequently has more to do with his attitude than talent. Hunter is a nice defensive center but unfortunately is rail thin. Good trade for the Cavs since 2nd round draft picks usually end up in Europe. Battie has been disappointing in the NBA, he does provide some defense.
I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought that. Gooden plays no defense and only avg. 11.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg in 27 mpg. and thats on a really bad team. That's not that great, as some people would have you believe. Hunter and Varejo are scrubs(trash). Battie is a tough defender and a solid veteran. He rebounds and shoots well. Cato may end up backing Battie when its all said and done. The second rounders are also trash. This trade will really help Orl. more than Cle, IMO.
