Wife and I watched it last night. It's goofy and gory but fun for the most part. Even at an hour and half, its plot and characters are too thinly written to maintain it's entertainment value. It's probably going to end up in the same category as Snakes on a Plane, enjoyable for one mindless viewing and that's about it.....

Box Office: ‘Cocaine Bear’ Earns $2 Million in Previews[IMG]

Cocaine Bear” is snorting up a solid opening weekend. The R-rated action-comedy earned $2 million in Thursday previews at the domestic box office. It opened in 3,000 North American theaters Thursday night and will expand to 3,534 on Friday.

Universal’s bloody, real-life tale about a black bear on a cocaine-fueled rampage is projected to open with $15 million to $17 million this weekend. Some predictions have it opening with as much as $20 million, thanks to its positive word-of-mouth (or word-of-snout) and memeability online. The mid-budget film cost roughly $35 million, with much of it used on the CGI bear, so a launch in the upper teens would be a good sign.

Did yall ever see "Tucker and Dale vs Evil"..."Cabin in the Woods"..."Slither"...?

The stupid-fun alligator movie? "Lake Placid?"

If you can't have a good time watching this fun-dumb movie, then you have a problem in your soul.

    No, that's bad-dumb, not fun-dumb.

@Mango, we do have a modicum of taste around here.

Next thing I know you're gonna be talking up JAWS: The Revenge

    ETA: I'll allow it.

How is it determined what makes a movie fun-dumb versus being bad-dumb? Is it because the expectations were higher for Anaconda because they used Names versus the low budget films that use No Names?

This is a really, really good question that I cannot answer at the moment.

It's like art, or p*rn maybe: not sure what it is but I like it when I see it?

eta: not sure that "names" have anything to do with it

that scene in Anaconda with John Voight (the actor) is awesome, and stupid, and fun.

I always trust your assessment/review in movies. This is definitely a sit at home streaming type deal for me.

Speaking of fun-dumb creature features, Arachnophobia was a quality flick, one of my favorite John Goodman characters

Cocaine bear currently hovering at 70% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Higher than the new Ant-man movie 48%.

Yeah, but what's the audience score? Critics are worthless.
