The origin of the disease should be the most non-partisan issue of the 21st century so far, but of course our dumb engineered duopoly imposes its will on everything. If Biden had said it was a lab leak first, you can bet your ass Republicans would have rallied around the opposing theory. Someone please deliver us from this binary nightmare.

I share your frustration. But science, as an institution, can’t be completely separated from politics since it relies on large-scale social cooperation where political relations do matter.

it became partisan the moment the democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) realized they could use it to damage the orange man.

Your side politicized Covid and mask wearing, no?

All Trump had to do was take Covid seriously and he’d be president right now.

The orange man has very thin skin. His administration was criticized for its handling of the coronavirus, which is typical of American politics and media. He got mad and, as usual, punched back by calling the coronavirus the new Democrats' hoax in a public speech and on Twitter. What he was trying to convey, but did so extremely poorly, was that the Democrats (and the media) were politically attacking him, which he found unacceptable because he believed he was doing an awesome job. It turns out that the criticisms were well warranted, and his administration did a bad job of handling the pandemic. He lost the election largely because of how poorly he handled the public health crisis.

The China in a Lab Theory has never really been fully explained ... perhaps the Rs that consumed it did not need to hear the details or adding details is problematic momentarily when the facts on the ground change.

The China in a Lab Theory could be
    • a Wuhan Lab worker caught covid and brought it to work and gave it to everyone there
    • Wuhan Lab collected the covid virus from some cave and accidentally spread it to lab workers
    • Wuhan Lab had a covert bio-weapons program to create a killer virus that accidentally spread it to lab workers
    • Tony Fauci is an evil scientist / mastermind
    • The Elitists aka The Jews created covid in the Wuhan Lab using their secret Jewish Space Lasers
    • Paul Pelosi gay lover in his underwear bought into the Wuhan Lab and set covid free
    • a fever dream that Bob in the Mailroom had
Any of the above will do.

That's one of the problems of talking about "lab leak". Different meanings to different people. Different meaning to the same person at different times.

Senator Rand Paul has a particular meaning for "lab leak" which he believes to be a laboratory-created virus. As a result, I believe a significant portion of the Republican base, and even the general public, may think that "lab leak" refers to a lab-created virus, despite the IC's broad rejection of this theory.

ps. This thread about 'NIH admits Fauci lied' is about 'gain-of-function' research which Rand Paul tied together with a laboratory-created virus. It basically defines "lab leak" as laboratory-created virus.

I think the body bags and full hospitals, contrasted with the orange man denying objective reality, did that more than the media.

Lol, how does the origin story even hurt Trump? If everyone would have believed that the virus leaked from a Wuhan lab, then we would think he was doing a great job keeping us from dying of it?

Since the MSM reported full hospitals and some such, which made Trump look bad, we can discount those "facts" as a disinformation campaign. Since the Rs fully realized that Fox News runs disinformation campaigns against the Ds as SOP, they naturally conclude that the MSM is just returning the favor.

I'm going to take the middle road on this because this is not to placate anyone but this is how I feel personally... on my side of the political spectrum. The worst thing we did was denigrate masks - I have a lawn business that I run in during the months from March through April I'm gonna wear a mask same thing with October through November. The reason is seasonal allergies. ... I also work DoorDash and Uber eats a couple hours a day five days of the week during the evening when I could earn between $25-$30 per hour just to add to savings - easy $45-$55 per night in most cases - when I do this, guess what I wear a mask because I think people that order the food appreciate that in addition I don't like the smell of mar1juana from others or stinky people in general . It cuts it down. Plus I'm susceptible to respiratory colds / allergies and I think this helps contain the spread. I'm not so concerned about Covid - it's not fun to be sick and to be out for 7 to 14 days. I can tell you that so I don't care what other people think and I think it's a smart decision on my part

What I don't think the other side of the spectrum did right was closed out all the businesses I think that was not necessary. I think it hurt the economy. I think there should've been a way to have a balance without closing everything and destroying lives in hindsight.

So having said that, I've probably upset everybody with my stance, but I do agree with you about the mask part we could've done better just in this area

This is like saying someone got a cold because they sneezed.

The mandatory partisanship was in place long before Trump got here, and its cause is not related to any one individual.

    How did he lie?

As far as I know, 4 or 5 of the Federal Departments still do not believe it was a lab leak.

Further, the DOE also stated it is based on very questionable intelligence.

I don't see how that really relates to Fauci, as far as him lying?
