Its just embarrassing how bad of an opinion this is. And its probably a common sentiment on here

Claxton, a dpoy candidate for most of the season, is worthless but Sengun who won 13 games is a star

Defense is contextual, and there’s different ways to be bad (or good at it).

Jalen is a bad defender because he is weak and gives little effort. This hurts us a little bit all the time he’s on the floor, but it doesn’t break our scheme and other teams don’t target him every time down the floor (they might if it were the playoffs).

Jabari is mediocre on defense sometimes because he doesn’t have the twitchiness to contest well enough; however he usually tries hard, is fundamentally sound, and executes the scheme pretty well. Coaches like this kind of player, so they keep him on the court.

Sengun is bad on defense because he can only guard the 5, and is too slow to not get blown by defending PnR at the level of the screen and not a good enough rim protector to play drop. He tries harder than Jalen, but since Sengun is a 5 and his limitations aren’t a function of effort — Sengun can be targeted more easily and profitably. Teams (and especially guys like Lillard) have spent years doing this to any 5 you put in the game who can’t defend PnR.

In a game where we’re trying not to get embarrassed, I don’t mind sitting Sengun. He has no chance against Lillard aggressively targeting him — it’s probably bad for his development to get crushed like that.

I don’t think he should be benched in other games though, I think those are opportunities for him to figure out how to get better like Sabonis or Jokic did (or not, like countless other slow bigs). Nor do I think he should get called out specifically. Honestly, I would love to see Jalen or KPJ get lit up in a press conference for their defensive effort instead - that’s actually a choice by them.

Jalen Green would average 18 seconds of game time a game if he was benched for his atrocious defence.

It’s quite clear you obviously do not understand where the frustration from a lot of Rockets fans (you referred to them as fanboys) comes from.

At one point KPJ was sent to the G league and Sengun is constantly getting benched every time there's an excuse to do so....and those are the 2 best players on the team.

However, Jalen and Jabari, the 2 worst performing players on the team are NEVER held accountable for their performance.

I don't even remember KPJ being sent to the G league, but I suppose it's true?

Tilman needs to pull his head out of his a** and fire Silas right now. This team has too much upside to be this F'ing bad. We do not even compete. I am 46 and have never seen a rockets team this bad. I hate the fact that I cant even sit through a whole game. I got rid of my season tix the second Tilman took over the team and I am so glad I did. Silas is sucking the soul out of the team. You need to bring in a WHOLE NEW coaching staff. I like some of our assistants, but this is a dumpster fire. Everything has to go, get a new uniform at the end of the season too. Anything and everything associated with this team. Then again what can you expect from a team that lets their starting "PG" quit a game during halftime, then put him right back as a starter after a 1 game suspension. Should cut him and Wood that day or fired the coach that day. Cant wait for this season to end!

He should be too but Jalen or Jabari or Nix being bad in their own right doesnt take away from the fact that Sengun is a trash defender

Jalen Green also doesnt player center where Sengun can get exposed on pnr because of his slow feet and poor instincts. Also lets not kid ourselves most people here are hardly rockets fans. They just stan whichever scrub that fits their narrative

No you’re absolutely right them being terrible doesn’t take away from Sengun’s bad defense when it happens.

The fact Sengun is the only one thrown under the bus by the coach, or benched for his bad defense is why there’s so much disgust on this forum. I’m almost positive barely any fans would be complaining if every player on the roster was treated the same (the roster doesn’t consist of a star player who warrants preferential treatment)

Jalen Green does play on the perimeter though where he lets every single person waltz by him.

You mention Sengun gets exposed because of his slow feet…. Jalen is Uber-athletic and he still can’t stay in front of anyone….

Jalen is infinitely worse than Sengun defensively and it’s not even open for discussion, which is comical considering the reason you’re saying Sengun is bad on the perimeter… is a liability Jalen doesn’t have - yet he’s still below atrocious.

Eubanks had one block on Sengun (which was arguably a foul). Eubanks scored two field goals in total, both of which occurred when Sengun was not in the game.

How that equates to "Sengun getting destroyed by Eubanks" will remain your haterade mystery, forever.

You don't remember KPJ absolutely schooling Jalen Green when they were both in the G League? He put up 28/10/9 and led the Vipers to a 23 point blowout of the Ignite... though he did have a lot of turnovers.

I looked it up, he put up decent numbers in the G League (except for the roughly 5 turnovers per game in his 15 games, more than 70 turnovers). So did Trevelin Queen and Daishen Nix.

Sengun's been a bad defender & Silas has ignored it all season. The ONE time he benches him this site goes berserk lol. Sengun's a defensive liability and he needs to be held accountable

Hold Sengun accountable, but Daishen Nix gives up 11 points to Damian Lillard, Tari Eason gives 12 points to Lillard, TyTy gives up 8 points to Lillard.

TyTy shouldve played harder if he continues to Start, Daishen Nix should not be playing over Josh Christopher at all. Josh is a better defender at least.

Jabari Smith got beat on a drive by a guard in the beginning of the game and Sengun didn't want to get hurt taking a useless charge foul. Jabari barking at Sengun when it was Jabari Fault.

Nix didn't play that season and Queen averaged 10 points a game.

The point wasn't that it's impressive to dominate the G League.... you expect any NBA player to do so, I was merely reminding you of when KPJ was sent down since apparently you forgot.
