Let's say, if we finish where we were last year or worse, JVG gets fired and we are in need of a new coach, would you want Phil Jackson to come out and coach the Rockets?

The guy is way too cocky and only coaches with extremely good talent surrounding him. Although I must admit that he brings out the best of them. IF, and that a big if, JVG was to quit or get fired, the best option out there is Phil Jackson. With T-Mac and Yao, it would be 3 championships all over again. By the way, don't forget that all that glamour that he had in LA would be gone and he would be the same Phil he was in Chicago.

I have a feeling that we might have seen the lats of Phil Jackson in the NBA.

He didn't use the media to criticize opponents/refs during the playoffs. That's not Phil-like at all. Usually he uses all the tools that he can get to his advantage. This year he seemed quite resigned. I think that he knew that this could be the end of his coaching career.

This would be his ideal situation. Going to a team that is already almost built and taking credit for everything. While I hate to say it, he does have a nice track record when he goes to a team that has dominant players. IF JVG's style doesn't work....I would take him in a heartbeat:( . and I hate him! Houston success is all i want.

Did he ever get a ring w/o MJ or Shaq/Kobe?

Question is, how do you not get another ring with Shaq/Kobe/Malone.

He's a 'decent' coach, but will never be a great coach unless he wins w/o having the most dominating player in the league.

Sloan is way better. Even Hubie Brown was better last year.

How could you even say JVG could fail? Look at what he has done in one year with the Team.

    1. Got us back to the Playoffs(first time in 5 years)
    2. Got rid of Moochie's contract
    3. Got rid of Cato's contract
    4. Got us Jimmy Jackson
    5. Got rid of Francis and Mobley's small ball style of play
    6. Got us T-Mac and Howard
    7. Made the Rockets one of the best defense teams in the league, in one year
    8. Has got CD too not throw money away like he used too.(Mo T, Moochie, Cato, etc. contracts)

And much more. JVG too me is the best thing that has ever happen in Houston in a long time.

    :)
First of all, I am a JVG fan. The thing I admire him the most is his work ethic. I don't think/hope he will fail, since his failure would be the Rockets failure. This thread is about Phil Jackson, not JVG. Jackson can only be hired if JVG is out, so the JVG thing is a pure hypothesis.

BTW, I am not sure we should give all the credit to JVG for all the positive moves we made. It's a product of team work by CD, JVG and Les.

    Go team and go Rockets!
    :)

You don't get another ring with SKM because Shaq was fat and Malone was hurt and they didn't have a team around them.

I don't see how you can claim Sloan is way better when we are talking about winning championships. He had Stockton and Malone for at least 10 years of their prime. He had his chance.

All I know is that I'd be burned out on coaching after dealing with Kobe the b!tch for 5 years. I wouldn't rule out him wanting to coach Yao and TMac though.

I say if JVG can't get it a good, efficient, effective offense going with Yao and TMac, get Phil or Larry. But I'm not convinced that JVG won't get it done yet. He has at least two more years of time, in my book.

If JVG gets fired then this team will have to look for a TOP NOTCH heavy hitter coach, much like the Lakers felt they needed to after Jackson left.

I am not a Jackson fan per say and in fact HATE his ref whining to the media. And I DO think he is somewhat overrated but I can appreciate how he 'manages' a team and deal with egos and players.

With that said, I would welcome him as the coach if I knew it would take Yao, Tmac and the Rockets to the next level. I would grin and bare it. ;-)

I'd jump in joy if we ever landed Jackson with McGrady and Yao here, that would almost guarantee greatness for those 2 players, and more trophies for the Rockets.

Who's the best coach then? Larry Brown is the best coach in the league? he couldn't win it with Allen Iverson, who was considered the best player in the league.

It's absolutely ridiculous how people fail to mention that O'Neal and MJ didn't have any titles in their 6 seasons before Phil Jackson.

You need your best player to become the most dominating in order to win a championship. The best coach is the one that allows the players to make that transition.

There are, ofcourse, exceptions to th rule, but MOST of the time that's the case.

Auerbach always had the best playerS in the league. So why are his accomplishments any different?

Difference is, Phil is good at what's needed in TODAY's NBA, but Red is good at what was needed BACK THEN. There are so many techinical advisors, coaches, assistants, directors, etc etc, that basically everyone CAN acquire the same tactical knowledge. The difference now is massaging your players' egos, as Rudy did with Hakeem, Phil did with his MJ/Pip and Shaq/Kobe duos, Detroit did with Rasheed/Billups and Isaiah Thomas. Duncan is the exception.
