The "hate" (such an overused word in today's woke society) for KPJ has always been about his performance in the facilitator role. Most of the people "hating" don't even want to trade KPJ unless it's for a star. I certainly don't want to trade him as that needlessly hurts our team. We are better with KPJ in a support role than we are not, it's that simple.

I agree that it is not KPJ's fault that he was put in a role that runs so contradictory to his strengths. That is very much on Silas, who has been by far and away the most worthless coach I have ever seen on any level of professional basketball. At the same time, while it is not his fault to be put in that position, it is entirely his problem on how he is underperforming in said position, especially when you try to put yourself in the spotlight as the self-proclaimed leader. This is the burden of responsibility that comes with the role you choose to accept and KPJ donned that mantle the moment he agreed to serve and continue to serve as a playmaker in Silas's nonsensical system.

As to looking at how the Rockets should proceed going forward, I definitely support moving him out of the facilitator role as well as the leadership role. There is simply too much incompetence in the former and overall immaturity in the latter IMO. Personally, I would love to see how he excels in a Klay Thompson type role. If Bari ever figures out his shooting issues, having two players that can play excellent D while serving as outlets to shell teams into submission from outside would be incredible.

I never quite got how a guy who last year shot 45-ish percent on catch and shoot 3s was put in the lead ball handler role.

Still think he could be an easy 6MOTY pick later on, if not a high level starter.

It's because Silas has no idea on how to handle anything other than having a Harden / Luka type system and KPJ has the best ball handling of any of our guards. The problem though is that while Harden and Luka have fantastic court vision, KPJ very obviously does not.

Is Silas the Adam Gase of the NBA? "Coaching" a Harden or Luka "system" is the closest thing I can think of to coaching Peyton Manning.

Hard to say. The only idea any of us have on what sort of system and identity he brings has been what he and his supporters have said. It might be possible for him to have an actual system that he just has not implemented in any noticeable way. That said, his entire career is shallow and kicked off by pure nepotism. If it weren't for his father, he would never be a HC right now for any team IMO.

silas has been an assistant coach for hornets, warriors, cavs. The Luka/harden type system isn't the only offense he's been a part of

Yeah we've been saying this since he stormed out at half time and nothing happened to him. KPj isn't the problem but his existence is a symptom of it.

Funny thing is that you could remove all 3 of the perceived "problems" from the casuals and ignorant national blowhards and this team would still suck! What would happen then? The MOB just turns its attention to someone else on the team because its just easier and more "efficient" to blame a patsy!!

we hear time and time again how toxic KPJ is behind the scenes, and yet, this is the guy Stone and Silas have been propping up this entire time

Not really. Considering how inept Silas is, how Stone and Silas have invested in the kpj experiment despite all the apparent signs that it should have been ended ages ago, this sounds all natural to me.

It is good that @Nook verified what we thought all along. The organization and the coach just shout incompetency and total collapse from left and right. You have to be either blind or refuse to see it, not to see it.
