there's also a bevy of bedroom diary pop rock if you're into that sort of thing (I'm not.). Boy Genius, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Japanese Breakfast, Beabadoobee etc.
Fontaines DC is another one that I don't really love, but I respect how they managed to get fairly popular doing straightforward post-punk, when the kids these days generally aren't much interested in rock music.
KALI AURORA CASTLEBEAT Milkblood (not sure when they got together) (God knows how many of those I first heard of in Manny's thread)
Yeah I loved the first two songs they got out there, and the album came off as very weak in relation. The "industry" now has that figured out though that that they find guys/bands like this that create something really freaking good on Soundcloud or whatnot, quickly sign them, make them setup a social media infrastructure, blast content/teasers, get on the festival circuit.... release a new "single" every 4 months.... ... and then keep teasing the artist that they'll be able to release their LP only when they get to a certain level of followers. Basically its all about followers and content more than it is about the music. The best example is Still Woozy who did finally get to release his LP, and another example is Goth Babe who STILL I don't think has been able to get a full LP released. Only gets singles or EP's out. Fontaines DC probably would have benefited from the "industry" model IMO, but that doesn't mean that I think it's the right thing to do.
Nation of Language technically formed 6yrs ago, but their first full length album didn't appear until 4yrs ago. Vibes with early New Order/ OMD Ocie Elliott - influences of Mazzy Star Peli Gene - still checking out this guy. Different sounds, some New Order, some Ultra Vivid Scene some other
