It's similar to how there's a chance Jalen Green or Jabari Smith become superstar caliber players. It's certainly not impossible, but you shouldn't hold your breath.

So the combo of both of them happening is less than 14%. Maybe its higher than 1% if Harden really wants to come back but I am skeptical.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't we have the exact odds as any of the other bottom 4 teams?

Harden knows the one thing he needs to burnish his reputation and shut up the doubters is a ring. He will be 34 next season, and there is a less-than-zero probability of him winning a ring with the Rockets within 3 years of signing here. No way he's willing to chase the dismal odds of winning a chip here at age 37 or 38. Instead, he's signing with a contender (Philly again or otherwise), and all talk about him coming here is merely leverage started by his new agent. To believe otherwise is being foolish and/or gullible.

With that in mind, the probability that we land Victor is roughly 14% if Adam Silver plays fair. But if you're Adam Silver, who would you like to see rewarded for their tanking efforts, one of the greatest and move beloved coaches the game has ever seen, or a blowhard like Tilman Fertitta?

The draft lottery is not rigged, we will have the same chance as the Spurs at Wemby.

Shirley there’s a chance. More Wems than James. More 3-5 than Webs.

Plow, you do realize The Freak, The Joker and Luka are all ‘plotting’ to join up at TheToyShop in ‘23-‘24, right? Of course right.

Adam Silver doesn't run the NBA. He's the spokesperson and the one who brings everyone together. The NBA is run by the board of directors, basically the 30 owners of the 30 teams. If all of the NBAs braintrust gathered in a room, Silver would be the least wealthy and least powerful person in that room. Now do you think 30 greedy, egotistical billionaires would allow some egg head to rig a decision that could potentially be worth billions of dollars in revenue? Hell no. Anybody who even thinks of rigging this could end up at the bottom of a lake.

I always love the complete certainty conspiracy theorists like to assert things with. It's one of the MANY idiotic (and hilarious) things about them tbh, rather entertaining.

Yes, a 14 % possibility that Wemby will be a Rocket next season.

And if that happens, I think it also increases the probability that Harden (or any other FA) would want to come here.

If you subscribe to the conspiracy theories, then there is a very good chance Wemby AND Harden are in Houston.

    1. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Harden to Houston charter seems ridiculously unbelievable, and yet it is out there. Why is it being 'planter's early? Because (conspiracy theorists will tell us), Houston is getting the #1 pick, and needs a star to place alongside Wemby from the start of his career (to get him into the playoffs and maximise international audiences)

    2. Houston is a decent size market. But has a proven track record of international appeal through stars.
Especially in the big man spot.

    3. Big men? Isn't Houston a city which has had a number of unique big dudes? Big guys who have changed the way the game is played?

    4. I could go on.

15% odds are nothing to sneeze at. I’ll take those odds better than 1.5% odds

    It's 14%

    Which is better than 1.4%

Unless the Nets fall into the play-in, lose, and end up in the lottery. In which case our odds increase by 0.5% for each place they 'rise' in the lottery

I said no simply because I do not see Harden coming back to this train wreck and we only have a 14 % chance at Wemby. I think Harden wants a ring and I doubt we get lucky in the lottery.

But seriously, from the article you linked to: "{Silver} has the authority to manage the league."

Saying "Adam Silver doesn't run the NBA" is flat-out wrong. That's precisely his job. You can argue whether he would orchestrate things like who gets the #1 pick among obviously tanking teams, but his running the league is a fact.

More of a chance that Harden is here than Wemby.

Draft is rigged and Wemby will be a Spur.

I’d put the chances of one of Wemby or Harden being a rocket next season at 20-25%

Sure he runs the day to day. The same way Stone runs the day to day of the Rockets. But Stone still has to answer to Tilman the same way Silver answers to 30 Tilmans, Tilmen, if you would. And if his decision is to carry out an action that would completely screw over 29, or at least 13, of those Tilmen, then there's gonna be a big issue. And there's way too many mouths to keep hushed to pull this off without anyone knowing. They hire a big 4 accounting firm, I think it was EY last time, to oversee the lottery too and there just isn't enough incentive for them to be in on rigging it.

Harden is coming back to Houston because he loves the city, not for basketball reasons. I think going to big east coast cities where his stardom didn't shine as bright made him realize how good he had it.
