And what kind of culture will Harden show these youngsters? Have you forgotten the criticisms regarding Harden's off court habits, never mind his wilting during playoffs? The championship should be the ultimate goal of any NBA team and every decision should be made with that in mind. There are, of course, long-term and short-term goals but if any decisions are made without considering the ultimate goal, then that would be cheating the fans of the team who expect nothing less. Harden does not and has not helped any team progress towards the ultimate goal and his influence is a negative among the youngsters.

all that criticism doesn't matter when he led the rockets to a ton of wins and for a long time. Who gives af about all that other nonsense. You care that he parties off the court? So what. right now the rockets have no clue how to win, nobody on the team knows how to win. And they will never learn until they can get someone like Harden.

No a championship isnt the ultimate goal here because they're so far from it. That's not near a reality to be in the discussion. Like someone else said you have to learn to crawl before you walk. You want a newborn baby to walk. That will never happen ever. A championship becomes an actual goal when your team becomes a consistent threat.

Let us know if not Harden this offseason, who is good enough to teach these kids and impact winning to the same degree

The main responsibility for teaching these youngsters rests on the coach and coaching staff. Veterans are secondary teachers. Speaking of teaching, who did Harden ever teach among his fellow players from the time he was with the Thunder until now? I still insist that every little move by any team worth its salt is geared toward the goal of a championship. You know that is true when you read quotes from great players and even veterans who have high respect for the game. Harden's wins are pyrrhic just like his scoring, meaningless. And don't discount the value of off-court habits when it comes to succeeding or failing in the highest levels of athletics. The great athletes also generally practiced disciplined and clean lives while competing.

    This is incorrect.

I mean the countless role players he made look better on the court during his time in houston really needs to be listed? You don't keep up with the rockets enough if you think he didn't teach guys or put guys in better positions to succeed that led to winning seasons and playoff runs.

no not every little move is a championship or bust logic. You fail to understand the steps and levels needed to attain before you can even talk about a title being a realistic option. Hence you're one of those that don't understand what a full rebuild is

What is a full rebuild then? What is an example of a team that has done a full rebuild? So what is the ultimate purpose of a full rebuild? Name specific players that you claim Harden helped and who ended up being significant contributors or stars of their teams.

The houston rockets when you literally start from scratch and draft 19 year old kids and hope as many develop into relevant players sooner rather than later but it takes actual years. Not a year. You know another team that’s been in full rebuild the kings. And look how long it’s taken for them to be relevant again

role players that had great years next to harden just to name a few that are just obvious. Asik, ryno, EG, parsons, pb, pj, moute, house, rivers

If James were to come back, there is one currently available coach who might be interested...

there are really idiots who think Harden would come here and try to be prime Harden taking all the shots, 35+% usage, and hindering the development of the young guys

I see this moronic take on Rockets reddit and Twitter all the time too

He also wouldn't take a backseat to players like JGreen or KPJ, those are clearly not better than him yet or ever.

Hard to imagine at the very least.

I really don't get why this would happen.

People do remember why he left? Right?
    We weren't good enough. Right?
While our ceiling may be higher, this team right now is arguably worse than the one he left.
Harden isn't winning a ring with this lot. Not next year anyway.
May not even make the play in.
So again, why would Harden do this?

So, do folks remember how he left? The BS plane flights to parties and on the court?
So why would we want that all over again?

So unless Harden has had a major change of mind and decided he doesn't care about winning and instead would like to embrace fully being a teacher and mentor, then this makes no sense whatso ever.

From what I gather, the Rockets will have enough money to sign both Harden (how much would it take?) and another good free agent (whomever that might be). Stone could also pare down the roster for future draft picks or trade for That Other Player with the cap space.

    Could. If. Rinse cycle repeat.

Of course, when he sits down with his agent and Morey to negotiate his next contract, the three might burst into pants-shi**ting laughter: "So, us or the Rockets?" (pause) "HA HA HA, AH HA HA....."

    Only The Shadow knows.

Interesting lineup but this whole summer will be intriguing. With 60 mil or so and another lottery pick will they rebuild with adding key vets and Harden to this young core? If they get Victor where would Jabari go? And would they get a Jerami Grant or Dillon Brooks? If so will this slide Jabari to the bench? What about the 5 spot? Is Sengun the long term option or do they employ a 2 big system with Vic? If they draft Scoot or a Amen Thompson they might look for Brooks or Grant to fill the SF spot. I think having a Clarkson or Trent Jr on the bench is very valuable. Very interesting

With the right coach and the right star anything is possible. But I respect the realism of the situation tho. I say get a coach with championship experience either as a player or as a coach or both. But we gotta pay $$$.
