I really love this game, but I don't own it myself. I've decided I'm going to go ahead and buy it, but I'm trying to decide if I want to invest in any of the expansions. Has anybody played them?

They have Seafairers of Catan and The Cities & Knights of Catan, but I don't really know anything about them. Can you play them together with Settlers of Catan, or are they separate games altogether? Can you play all three together? Are they worth it?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

If I remember correctly, Seafairers and Cities & Knights are both expansions of the literal sense. There are additional pieces you add on to the board for Settlers. They also use the same game pieces, as well as some of their own. I haven't played Seafairers yet, as Cities & Knights gets much more complex than Settlers, but everytime I play Settlers or Cities & Knights, it's a pretty good time.

Seafairers of Catan and The Cities & Knights of Catan are just extra's t the original game, just like the expansion for 5 or 6 players. i like The Cities & Knights of Catan alot, but the rest of my family doesn't like it that much, it makes the game more difficult, Seafairers of Catan is also great, i think both are great expensions. They both are worth it

I love this game so much but have never played the extensions. So basically, I can't help you.

    Thanks guys.

Any thoughts on whether Seafairers or Cities & Knights is more of a must have?

I'm thinking of getting the basic set and one of the add-ons...

A friend of mine bought Settlers, and we played it out. He then bought the Cities and Knights expansion, and it's great. We still play it occasionally when we have the time.

    Never played Seafairers though.

I love Settlers. I was at my parents for a month and played it all the time with my buddies up in Stillwater. It is so addicting. I have been planning on picking it up too and I didn't know there were expansion sets. I'll have to look in to them.

it depends on what you want. Seafairers is a lot of fun, with that expansion, you can build searoads, it adds alot of cool scenario's the one i like the best is exploring a new world, that one is cool. you can't see almost half of the land/sea, you have to get there with you boats to see whatkind of land is there, that is very cool.

Cities & Knights is also very cool, it adds more to the game, like i said my family didn't like Cities & Knights so i only played it about 5 times. IMO Cities & Knights adds other levels to the game. because you now have to have knights and you can get other goods. like books and other.

i can't say wich you should get, i think it depends on what you want. my family liked seafairers the most. But i think i liked Cities & Knights, but maybe that is just because i played only a few times. hope this helps

one question this game isn't new in the usa is it?

I was invited to play it at my friends' house, boy I am hooked. This is a fantastic game, and I don't mind playing more. DarkHorse, if you want to play with me, anytime!

CATAN is Alligator Gar in Spanish. You catch a lot of those in the Rio Grande (Río Bravo for those of us who lived in Mexico once).

It isn't new is the US, but it's recently regained a lot of popularity. I had never heard of it before a couple of months ago, and now all the game stores have been stocking it in mass quantities. It's making a big comeback.

I think I'm going to get Seafairers, cause it seems a little less hardcore, even though I think I'd enjoy Knights & Cities. I have to plan for what my wife and friends would be willing to play with me.
