This isn't a surprise. The Heat only had HALF of their MLE to use because of the Doleac signing so they just didnt have the money to compete with other teams. I think Dooling is a solid signing for the Heat for backup PG.

That's good and bad news. Good because they didn't sign Mike or Damon, bad because neither are worth that much more than half the mle.

So that implies both Jones and James are asking for about the full MLE?

Yes, but once every team has signed the players they want and all of their MLE are used up, these guys will be forced to take whatever the Rockets offer, if the Rockets want to go that route. The Rockets knew that once Barry and Fisher were gone, there wasn't much difference in everyone else, so they could wait until everyone else had used up their cash and then offer less than what the players would have demanded when they had more options.

    This is excellent.

If DJ or MJ want to go to a team with high prospects where they probably start I think their options are very limited.

3 year (10 mil) to 4 year (14 mil) deals starting at 3 mil may be able to land one of these guys.

what other teams are looking for PG's? it would be helpful in guessing our chances with some of these guys if we knew who we are in competition with.

but wow... dooling (Mizzou alum), Wang (chinese guy), Shaq (one of my favorite players), Miami (my parents live there).

i'm gonna have to go to some games!

you're right, but he might get 30+ MPG.

bimbo coles, wade, and eddie jones are the only other guards on that roster...

i can see them playing small ball with Wade, Dooling, and Jones.

the only legit F/Cs they have are Haslem and Malik Allen (surpringly legit)... so expect Wang to get plenty of PT too...

    Shaq/Wang
    Allen/Wang/Haslem
    Wade-Dooling-Jones...

I guess this works in the East. Will be interesting to see.

There has been some reports that malone might join shaq in Miami. If that happens you will probably see the heat in the finals next year.

LAL used most their MLE for Vlade.

I don't think the Clips intend to spend money on other teams FA, could be wrong.

Miami was our chief comp for DJ or MJ, who is left that need a starter or heavy minute back-up?

Ha! That is a good point (no pun intended). Most of the guys mentioned are in their very late 20's or early 30's and have never been starters.

I wouldn't sign Jones or James for anything more than our 1.6 exception. James or Jones are not all that. Let Gaines have a chance, as well as Lue. Reserve the MLE for a backup center, or use the TE for that position, muscle in the paint, or for picking up some young talent who can grow with our team. I'd like to see us use the TE for building our team, not filling temporary holes.

I don't know if DJ or MJ will be better than Lue next year or down the line.

But gosh, I did not know playing Lue 48 minutes was an option. Why didn't I think of that . I do howver know DJ/MJ/AD plus Lue puts in a much stronger postion at the 1 next year than Lue plus Gaines/Wilks or any other guy we can scramble up from the CBA, developmental league, Filipino league, Siberia Ice league, etc.

Gaines is a prayer, you hope he becomes an NBA player before his contratc is done, but having him in no way effects the roster make up.

The one thing it does is take away that other team that I'm sure their agents were saying were looking at them and had a real shot in the coming years to win a championship...

DJ or MJ lost some leverage because Miami gave up on them and went with Dooling as there backup...

My guess is we will end up getting DJ but the question is for how long of a contract...

Gotta believe he's looking for longterm 4-5 years where Houston's CD said its better 2-3 years... Mike James probably wants the same type deal...

So unless they go and take more money, or which will take less to be with a contender... I hope its DJ but it may be CWard...

I'm actually more interested in what we do with the trade exception...

I know every team is asking for JJackson and Houston is not even going there... We all know we are shopping anyone but Yao, JJ, TMac and Howard...

Two solid back ups sharing the minutes at the 1 might compare to one solid starting pg with a scrub backup in overall production.
