Earned it more than him? Most players on the team. It's funny how some react when accountability is proposed. The idea that it's okay for a top draft pick to perform as the worst or second worst player on the entire team is Silas thinking.
Yeah but the guys behind him stink too. It would be different if some kind of Tari/Jabari situation existed here where there was a guard on the bench who was outperforming Jalen but wasn’t getting the same treatment because of his draft position. But we don’t have that, all our guards suck, and as bad as Jalen had been we would be worse with Nix or JC in his spot.
Sure, but they don't suck as much as Green does, so they should get the playing time until Green decides he has to earn his playing time. I see no reason KJ Martin shouldn't start over Jalen Green....but at a bare minimum, Jalen's minutes should be cut back when he's just mindlessly chucking while not even pretending to play any defense. Of course, that would require a coach that has the balls to hold top draft picks accountable for their poor performance, and we don't have that.
You know what you got with JG. Shut him down for the year and take a deep look Josh Christopher. Team maybe scared he will out shine JG!
Instead of benching him, why not just try accountability, when anyone makes too many glaring mistakes they come out, get what they are doing wrong explained, then put back in....if they continue to mess up, they get to grab some more pine....and watch. ANYONE on the team. DD
Dudes were crying about Josh Christopher's performance in Summer League games. Now all of a sudden he's the Messiah who's more deserving of a starting spot in real games than our number two pick. I guarantee JC is the next player this board will trash daily if he ends up taking JG's spot.
Josh Christopher definitely does not deserve to start, he's terrible. The question is more who would be a better player off the bench, Jalen Green or Josh Christopher. They both suck, the only argument for Josh Christopher actually plays some defense some of the time. Honestly they are fairly similar players in that they are highly athletic mindless chuckers. Personally I think Jalen Green would be the better bench player because there are random games where he could give the offense a real boost when he happens to be hot....and the rest of the time, if he was a bench player, he wouldn't be allowed to chuck enough to hurt the team. Maybe use them as a platoon at the 6th man spot, whichever one (if either) happens to be hot gets the minutes.
I could be ok with this, but I think it would be hard for Silas to suddenly implement such a strategy. And another problem is our bench is so unbelievably bad that we would end up losing games by 60 instead of 30. I think we just need a new coach and a new tone. I don't see anything changing until that happens.
If Jalen and KPJ are injured for the remaining of the season, expect this offensive to free fall. We will now have only one competent self creator and a bunch of headless chickens. KMJ is about to be our second option.
This thread seems more than a bit odd to be posting when the kid is out injured and we don't even know how bad it is, in my opinion.
This makes sense, but basically the fact taht the whole team was assembled with a total-youth-rebuild makes this harder than it shoudl be because thee's no replacements, and the last few veterans were shipped out last week. I said this yesterday but the ROckets and the current lottery system are going to be used as a cautionary tale in the future of the "full youth blow it up rebuild" (meanwhile, Utah or OKC or whoever will be used as the model to emulate).
I mean, why? Who exactly stepped up and scored a ton of buckets last night? Hasn't the excuse been all along that nobody else plays good because of Jalen and KPJ? Our top scorer had 15 last night. Jalen was the second best scorer on the team in 16 minutes. Maybe, just maybe, he's not the problem and the rest of the team literally does not have the chops to be the difference maker.
I said 2 years ago you can't build by tanking anymore - that the lottery system makes it too risky, that you build by TRADING primarily. As for Jalen, looks like his groin will bench him for a spell anyway, I hope he doesn't go to the All Star game now.... DD
for context, I was drunk last night and angry at the team. Jalen had his usual atrocious start. He then picked it up as he hit a couple shots. This (always) seems to engage him on the other end a bit more. Im tired if watching this ****. I fail to understand why we have abandoned a Sengun led offense. I can’t comprehend why Green drives beautifully to the right side of the rim only to try to finish with his off(left) hand. Or why he drifts so badly off ball on defense. Yea I think he needs to earn the right to start. Keep in mind I am and have been one of his biggest supporters. I expect him back in 4-6 weeks for a few games and yes, I think there is some value in seeing how it goes with him off the bench. This call for discipline certainly extends to Porter as well. But that isnt my concern. My concern is taking our highest potential player and drawing a line on what it takes to be lead dog.
You've always had an agenda here. Maybe you should take care of yourself and not be a fat slob instead of criticizing Green
