Report: Malone may join Shaq in Miami

Could Karl Malone be reunited with Shaquille O'Neal?

According to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the agent for Malone said the Mailman has listed the Miami Heat as one of the teams he would consider playing for.

Malone, the NBA's second-leading scorer all-time behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, had indicated that he wouldn't return for a 19th season if his surgically repaired right knee wasn't sound. Retirement is one option the future Hall of Famer has seriously considered. Now, playing alongside O'Neal again appears to be another.

Dwight Manley, Malone's agent, indicated that he had talked to the Heat about his client possibly joining the team.

Malone's brief tenure with the Lakers appears over. The Lakers signed center Vlade Divac from Sacramento on Monday, and acquired three forwards (Caron Butler, Lamar Odom and Brian Grant) in the trade with the Heat involving O'Neal.

Malone scored well below his career averages in an injury-plagued 2003-04 season. Malone, who has averaged 25.0 points per game in his 18-year career, averaged a career-low 13.2 points last year.

Robert Horry, a veteran of five NBA championship teams (including three with O'Neal and the Lakers), is also considering a move to Miami.

If he goes there I still don't think they can win him a title, but with Shaq in the east it is possibility. Man I hate Malone.

i don't think he'll join the heat though, even with shaq there. the only reason karla comes back is for a ring and the heat isn't a ring contender by a long shot.

also, karla himself has a curse. which ever team he joins will NOT get the championship next season. one thing is clear, he's too old. even if he's healthy enough to come back his body won't be able to take the whole season. sounds familiar? ;)

Either/or. Or neither? Apparently Shaq will anoint the incoming 4.

can somebody just send Karla a nice ring and a trophy, so he can stop whoring himself around the league in search of them?

Nothing new. Heat, Lakers, and Spurs have been the teams mentioned by either Malone or his agent. Retirement should still be his #1 thought. He won't have a better shot at a ring than he had last year, no matter who he teams up with. Simply put, there are no less than 6 legit title contenders this year. Besides, unless he's splashing his knee into the fountain of youth, he'll be at least as creaky as last year.

No no no... it's fun to watch him run around the league trying to ride someone's coattails to a ring. :)

Here's to hoping he doesn't get it again and making me happy once more that he didn't!

He 'tweaked' his knee early in the year and besides rest, did nothing to help it. Now it's been cut, why shouldn't it be good?

DoD - if he fails to get the ring, then come back. If he succeeds, it would be an ugly scene.

I thought Malone urged the Lakers to sign Divac. Seems strange that after wanting them to sign Divac, and subsequently having done so, he wouldn't resign.

However, there's no money in La-La land with Divac's signing.

He'll probably end up in SA and claim his ring.

damn, and i was really starting to like the new-Heat, Stan-Van Gundy aka Ron Jeremy, and Dwayne Wade. Not to mention Big Wang Z and The Goods. Now the big aristotle will be cutting into WangZ's minutes, and Malone is going to ruin the integrity of the city, ugh.

The Lakers have as much money as they gave him last season, if he's healthy enough to play he'll more than likely play for the Lakers.

Karla probably realizes by now that she's cursed. I think she'll attempt to get the all time scoring title from kareem intead of going for the ring. For that, signing with Miami might make sense.

    My sentiment exactly.

The only team I worry about is SA. It's the one team that gives Karla a good chance to get his ring.

Agreed, SA is either short (Rose) or weak and unathletic (Rasha, everyone else) in big guys after TD, even a granddaddy Malone fixes that.

Go to Miami Karl, go to Miami! And use most, if not all, of their MLE while you are at it.

actually, karla winding up in miami could be a very important development.

for all his warts and injuries, he did a competent job of muscling KG out of his comfort zone and made him work. Karla also does a reasonbly good job of frustrating Yao. He would be a big addition to the spurs because of those 2 matchups alone.

Karla does not want to go to SA because he would have to play backup to Duncan.

But if he goes to SA, he will get a ring.

I will be so happy to see Karla go to Miami, because
    1) it will gurantee him and Heat a year without ring
    2) Karla become a laughing stock again as he said on camera he would only return as Lakers.

Someone once told me that my hatred of Karl made him stronger, so I have adopted a new attitude.

I love Karl Malone. I want him to be able to relax, kick up his feet, and spend more time smelling the roses. He should be able to spend more time doing the things that really matter in life, like being with the ones he cares about. So I really hope he retires. The ba$tard.
