Chatting with my brother, he brought up an intriguing thought for the next HC since Silas obviously wants out..You don't say stupid **** like I run no plays for my no.3 pick unless you trying to cash-out IMO. Would a Cassell hiring galvanize the fans like the Demeco Ryan's hiring for the Texans? I, myself, believe another young inexperienced player coach would be a mistake but i wouldnt want an old outdated coach either... Cassell has paid his dues as longtime assistant so I'm curious .. May bring some enthusiasm next season from fanbase.. I remember reading that player accountability was one of his strengths so it may work.. Lock if there's a similar thread..
I’m not saying he’s Silas2.0 but they just went with the first time career assistant. Cassell has been an assistant since 2009. Some interviews, no jobs (/job offers). Silas, a 20 year assistant. Some interviews, no jobs until the Rockets took a chance. “But he’s worked with John Wall, Bradley Beal, Chris Paul & James Harden!” “But he’s worked with LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kamba Walker & Luka Doncic!” Be honest with yourselves. You wouldn’t want him if he never played here (& won a championship here). Unpopular opinion but nah, I’m good.
Demeco got a top coordinator job after 4 seasons and was an in demand coach after 6 before even turning 40. Cassell has been at it for almost 15 years coaching and in the NBA for 30 years. When somebody with a great player background is passed over for that long there is something front offices don't like.
Yes please!!! The difference between him and coach Silas is that Sam actually played in the nba. Also he won 3 championships. He knows exactly what the players go through. Silas doesn’t have that on his résumé. Some people got it and other people don’t.
Cassell is cool... I'd rather just hire the coach sitting at home that just took his team to the finals. And, yes. This team has played so bad it's worth taking the risk he bangs Stone's wife.
Unless he's bringing the best roster in the league with him it's not going to change much. The Rockets clearly ****ed up the rebuild, they should clear out the FO (including relatives) and the coaching staff and let the new GM pick the coach and come up with a plan. A plan that doesn't rely solely on drafting a franchise player (or pretending that any current Rockets are one or could be one) They won't though.
I’ve said it in other threads about Sam and I’d be 100% for hiring him. The Rockets should be the team to give him his opportunity.
