Its seems like the folks who hate on green without fail are the ones pining for mobley still and recent Hard-core sengun only fanatics who somehow think Green is stealing senguns spotlight.

Green didn't have a great game but his offense kept the game close w/o him we probably get blown out even earlier

It’s funny because most of the commentators are pretty complimentary towards the potential our young guys have, if nothing else. And then I log on to CF and seemingly half of our guys are already ready to trade them..

I don’t really care because everyone’s opinion is every bit as valid as mine but sometimes you wonder if the forum is just one gigantic negative echo chamber at times.

I think it’s because we watch our dudes every night, and thus their faults are magnified. But if we look at the numbers we OBJECTIVELY have some promising young guys and that’s a start

There were definitely possessions tonight where I thought Sengun was in a better position to score and Green instead too the 3. Those are the attempts he needs to take out of his shot selection. But ya he was really attacking the paint relentlessly. Exactly what you want out of a young go to scorer. Rather have that than a guy who only relies on a jumper to be a good scorer.

I have seen much worse games from Harden during his first year here. Green is still young, fans need to be patient.

TL;DR: we miss the head honcho

    Silas:

    3pt shooting?

Threes themselves and the way we’re set up right now, especially without KPJ, we don’t have much creation for drive and kick 3s. Our quality is just OK and we’re not making them. Guys are pressing. Guys are I don’t know, feeling pressure when shooting the 3. We have one more game before the break. Hopefully we get confidence back when it comes to shooting. Shot creation is what I’m most concerned about.

    Adjustment without Eric?

For sure. Right now, we’ve replaced Eric with Tate. That’ll take 3s and spacing away, as much as Tate adds with the great things he does. It will take time for the group.

Team can’t shoot, wide open 3s …and only Jalen / Bari / JC attempt midrange … Sengun has his shotput shot and TyTy his floater

Tate, KJM, Garuba, etc etc … either a 3 or layup.. and our paint stays so packed it makes layups difficult

Jeezus christ. Head honcho does not set up his players to shoot threes.
The whole silas offense is just basically pass the ball to the guy who is given the green light to shoot. Either he shoots or pass it around for the open guy to shoot.

Silas acting like kpj is doing anything different

Silas looks lost, even in a post-game presser. It’s depressing. I need to make sure not to watch those things.

I remember people also saying he had a “Kobe mentality”

I never took any Kobe talk seriously

    Jalen averages 29, 5, and 5 on 52/41/78 splits in wins…and 20, 4, and 3 on 38/31/78 splits in losses

    the difference is remarkable

it was similar last year as well

    he is showing signs tho

for a guy whose playmaking was a major weakness, almost 4 assists a game and just a 13% TO rate in year 2 is very encouraging…Can we get that bumped up to 5-6 apg in a few years?

he is not bad at getting to the line…his current free throw rate is higher than Anthony Edwards has yet to be…Can we get those attempts up to around 8 a game in a few years?

if he gets that 3 pointer to just average, like simply being just a 36% shooter from deep, he will really be a problem

People don't consider the context either.

Like for Mobley, he was drafted to a team that wants to win now, has several vets. Mobley doesn't have to score for him to have a good game. All he has to do is be a good defender.

Jalen Green's expectations is to be a all-star player, a franchise player, at worst a robin to someone's batman. The bar is much higher for Green because of the situation he was drafted to.

If Mobley was drafted here how would he look? We'd have to run offense through him, how would that go? I predict it wouldn't look pretty, at all. Mobley just is not much of an offensive player right now and it would be a huge leap for him to ever become that.

    u summed it up nicely

sometimes I’ve gotta give Jalen Green’s finishing ability some leeway, because that paint more congested than 5 o’ clock on the freeway

silas would make Mobley Theis. And green on another team would look much better. Cf would go crazy about it.

Good point, Jabari by all accounts was a better offensively player than Evan Mobley in college, and he looks like this in Houston. Imagine if we had Mobley in Houston, yikes.

of course, they don’t watch the rockets 3 times a week . Not a direct shot at green, but it is very hard to watch this brand of basketball by Silas and not get frustrated. And the frustration finds its way.

for me I am most frustrated at Sengun getting 1 assist. That tells me the team is playing fundamentally wrong.

1000% how I think it would go.

Same for Paolo. Not saying that Jabari would look great on Orlando but Paolo has the usage of an all-star player over there. He would not have that freedom here. He'd have to fight for touches with Green, with KPJ, and with Sengun and with Ego until recently. I have a feeling if Paolo was here he'd be doing just what Jabari is doing now. Spotted up at the 3 point line hoping to make shots he's not used to getting in game.

This is why many here favored Jabari, he's the better long term fit. Bari doesn't have to score well to have an impact on the game, he can do that by stretching the floor and playing defense, theoretically at least, while Paolo NEEDS the ball to be effective. Having him post up in the corner like we do Jabari would be wasting his playmaking ability but then that means what do you do with Sengun?

The thing is most of this board WANTED these guys. Most of this board WANTED Green over Mobley. Most of this board WANTED Jabari at 3, laughed at the Kings for taking Murray...hell, most of this board WANTED Sengun and Eason as mid first rounders.

Stone has actually drafted the players that most of this board wanted and approved of and now people are ready to give up on them not even 2 seasons in.

Green is doing okay. Would be good to see some improvement in shot selection. Other than that with the way he is coached, I don’t think there is much else he can do.

one thing I don’t understand is the disappearance of sengun&green pnr. Sengun is now used as a screener or hand-off guy for green. No actual pnr.

Mobley wouldn’t look as bad as Jabari right now because he could probably still get enough dunks and putbacks to average 10-12 ppg on 48-50% shooting in Houston

Jabari’s jumper is still back in Auburn playing video games and smoking weed
