Hey, guys, one of my bands - SlapShifter - is playing Friday at the Rhythm Room opening for Guy Forsyth. Come on out and say, "Howdy." For more info, visit http://www.slapshifter.com/. Also, I've got another gig coming up on the 31st at Rudyard's with my other band, orange is in. We really want to pack the house for that one, so I'll post about it again next week. But, if you think you'd like to come out, please do. I may even be able to get you on the guest list.
This isn't the band we named is it? Slapshifter? Howzabout Anklebiter, or r****ded Midget? Surely those are better than Slapshifter...?
Jeff...ya gotta start booking gigs on nights when I'm free so I can come out to see you! The mighty mighty Dukes of Houston, the blues band with the Bayou City tone, are at Brazos Bottom Bar & Grill in Rosenberg on 7/23 and at Dukes' Tavern in Katy on 7/31. But Jeff...keep posting your gigs and I will be at the first one that's on a night when I'm not playing! And enjoy...Guy is very nice and alot of fun to hangout with after the show!
Hey I was checking out your photo gallery on the SS site and I realized I was at one of those shows at Rudz. We went with some friends to see the band that played after y'all but I thought y'all were better by far. I don't recall the name of the other band but they were from Austin and the only reason we went was one of the girls we were hanging with's brother was in the band. (does this make sense?) Anyway had I realized it was you I would have said hey after the show. Good Show.
I am no critic, but I will say SlapShifter is more entertaining than a dude beating on some wood . Speaking of which, aside from a mildly cute song about an Eskimo girl, a quick listen of KPFT this afternoon proved a painful aural experience.
You didn't tell us that you were in a band with a cute girl on fiddle. I'm no longer allowed to go see Hot Club of Cowtown, so I doubt my wife will let me go see Orange is In.
I would love to see Elana {sp?} again. It's been years since I have seen them. I do hope to catch both Slapshifter and Orange is in. I have never seen Orange is in, but I have enjoyed both times I saw SlapShifter. I also hope to catch blendt sometime as well. Guess while I am at it, does anybody else have a band I should see? I do have Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Syndrome, but it's rarely contagious for musicians.
I don't think Gwayneco has anything contagious...I have hung out with him for a couple years, and I am still a wack-job far left liberal....his conservatism may have spread to my girlfriend though...and they only met once...I say proceed with caution, if after meeting him, you start to think Dick Cheney isn't so bad after all...run don't walk.
You should have listened from 11:00 to 2:00. Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene, Postal Service, Neutral Milk Hotel, Unicorns--it's an indiophile's dream!
Nope. That was orange is in. SlapShifter had the name when I first joined and they were brand new. And vice versa! You are probably thinking of Sparkwood. They are kind of a Jellyfish-style band from Austin. I like them, but I didn't think they had nearly the hooks of bands like Jellyfish. That was one of our very first gigs. We have improved considerably since then. In fact, my songwriting partner from orange is in and I played an acoustic set opening for everyone that night. LOL! Amy's cool and a very good violinist. She sorta makes orange is in what it is. But, your wife doesn't have to worry. She's engaged to a really nice guy.
Ok, Jeff, you rule. You know that, and yr not insecure enough that you need to be reminded of that. But, t-shirts with slogans on them? T-shirts? Show some reverence for le Rock. Give the kids something with buttons, or nothing at all. Nothing that could be purchased at a mall in Arkansawr. Keep on, brosef.
I like them and I do have a couple of their CDs. Wish I could make the show, but it is not to be. Also, I heard the Eskimo girl song KTRU rather than KPFT. I, like RMan Tex, only listen to KPFT on the weekends. Tonight I will give the Chicken Skin Music Show a try on KTRU (starts at 8pm tonight). Then tomorrow, it's Slapshifter time.
Ok, just got back from the show and just wanted to give props to Jeff and the rest of Slapshifter. Good show guys. And a Guy named Forsyth wasn't too bad either . Next week I'm looking forward to catching Orange is in at Rudyard's.
Any good bands playing tonight? My wife and I have a baby sitter. We would love nothing more than than hearing a good live show. The TC has one going on, but we are not close to shelling out $120 for 2 tix to see Sarah Mcwhatever.
Thanks for coming out, guys. I was impressed by Guy Forsyth. I'm not a big fan of that sort of bluesy rock, personally, but they were really good. Plus, how often do you see two REALLY good female drummers on the same bill who aren't playing in all girl bands?
This is tough since I haven seen only one of the bands playing tonight. But I have heard good things about the following acts: Singer/Songwriter type? Sisters Morales - at the Mucky Duck Shake Russell and Dana Cooper - JP Hops House Rock???? Vallejo - Engine Room Ska Los Skarnales - Fitzgerald's Real Country Tommy Alverson - Firehouse Blues Sherman Robertson - Cactus Moon Cafe Tony Vega - The Big Easy Of those, Sherman Roberston is the only that I have seen live, and that was last week. I liked him so much that if I go anywhere, it will probably be to that show.
