The Gordon pick swap was a creative way to get something of substance. The Nets seem determined to hold course and make the playoffs this year; the Blazers, Knicks, Pelicans, Lakers, and Suns (obviously) are all trying to win. All said, this Clipper's swap has the potential to rise or at least remain at the same level (#19 if the draft was today).

[In subsequent years, when the Nets are a second-tier lottery team, the Rockets will have something of value--at least better than just a late-round FRP, which at the time was what most pundits would have thought a Nets pick would be. Almost no one, except fans on this board, would have predicted the Nets' big three to implode before the end of the 2023 season.]

Turning undrafted players into second-round draft capital is what a GM is supposed to do. If we had held on to Mathews or Fernando one day longer, they would have been worth nothing.

Let's see if Stone will buy out all of the veteran acquisitions and take an active approach, using the end of the Rocket's bench to look for available talent. I'd rather he spend his time looking at the draft, players in the G-league, and the waiver wire than tinkering with minutes of guys in current games.

You can argue we waited too long to trade EG, but I’m dubious what we missed out on based on the reporting these past couple of seasons. Otherwise:

    Tank intact
More playing time for our draft picks
Sets up next season to start signing vets/FAs

No, good point. I just meant Victor. Scoot would be an all star consolation prize especially since this team desperately needs a guard who makes players around them better

    LOL.

Obviously this thread is to promote a podcast. If we don't have podcasts can we even have opinions?

I think the trades were fine on their own. Stone moved out the redundancy and picked up some draft capital. If JC and Garuba get more playing time and show improvement, it’s a win for the team.

Great. My brilliant thoughts will be lost in internet oblivion because I posted in some second rate trade grade thread.

Considering where we started the week I would give it an A. We got a better 1st out of Gordon which was the best we could hope for. No one was going to give a 1st alone for a 34 year old role player. But more importantly we freed up mins to see how well Christopher and Garuba can be as full time rotational players if anything to help their increase their trade value for next year.

I’m just glad we didn’t trade KMJ as he has been the brightest starter having out played the opposing SFs each game. We are getting crushed at PF where Jabari gets outsourced by 5+ pts a night and the need for better playmaking at PG. Looking for improvements at these positions this summer. If we don’t land a top two we’ll likely have to make a major trade to address these needs.
