Yeah, it's weird to me Carr is being considered on-par with other bridge options like Jimmy-G and Jacoby Brissett. Has Carr really regressed that much? I've always considered him top-15ish and borderline top-10 in the right situation, not quite elite but wouldn't be shocking to see him in MVP conversation in the right situation (like Tua this year). And he's still only 31. I'd rather get a young buck but he's an established good QB which don't exactly grow on trees.
overrated adjective over·rat·ed ˌō-vər-ˈrā-təd Synonyms of overrated : rated or valued too highly Derek Carr is overrated
How exactly is he overrated? The narrative on him is he's a prototypical pocket passer with a decent enough arm that likes to run a little bit but lacks creativity. No one is comparing him to Marino but there were some games where Carr performed well and the defense loss the raiders the game.
On the cool if the Texans were really entertaining the idea of Carr I would much rather they go all in on Lamar Jackson instead.
I'd put him in the Kirk Cousins / Ryan Tannehill category. He can win in the right circumstances, but he's not a guy anyone is going to say is going to elevate your team. But those guys also make $30-$40MM/yr. Unless he just can't find a job anywhere else, I can't see him wanting to come to a total rebuild - his whole frustration in LV was the losing.
I’ve watched every snap Carr has taken the last few years. There was some regression in his play last year for sure, but he’s still a very much legit NFL starting quarterback. The question I have is whether or not his regression last year was due to him beginning to decline, or the overall dysfunction of the Raiders organization. Carr is as quality of a dude as you’re going to find, but he’s not going to be available for the Texans so it really doesn’t matter one way or the other.
Yeah, definitely an important question. But seems like most QB's lately are hitting their golden years in the early-to-middle 30's so could be intriguing buy low after a couple of down seasons in a dysfunctional org. But unlikely either way as you say
