Makes no sense to not take that trade

I don’t believe that was discussed

How do you know it's not a directive from Fertita. He doesn't want to pay role players. He's too cheap I doubt Williams is a guy that he would be eager to pay millions to.

I still don't understand Rocket's reason. Because positional fit? (of who we draft).

While they wait, good deals could be gone. You can still move other pieces later on. Optionality means little, if after the draft, all the remaining options are terrible.

    Grant's current contract:
    2022-23. $4,306,281
    2023-24 $6,235,495 (RFA. Qualifying Offer)

He's actually cheaper (slightly) than Tate.

Tate - Stone loves his contracts too much because he has full control over Tate.
    2022-23. $7,065,217
    2023-24. $6,500,000
    2024-25. $7,065,217

Imagine if we didn't give KPJ his raise and offered a portion of that money for Grant's raise.

We have room anyways next year. But if Stone was slotting for someone else, he can even cut Gary or few other deep bench guys.

What's the point of good contract deals if you don't get better players out of them.

Maybe just maybe I’m trying to be optimistic stone has a player in mind and might need Tate to get it done.

Tate is overrated AF. Dude's 27, short and has a limited 3 pt range. Let him go to Celtics so he can compete for a ring while he is still in his prime. Grant Williams would've been a nice pickup esp if he came with draft compensation. Yeah he'll cost money to retain but the Rox will have a ton of cap next season and other than James Harden there isn't anyone worth throwing the max too. Signing guys like Grant would have been the play bring in a dude who has played in a good system so he can teach other guys on how to play the right way. Plus Grant himself is a good player def wouldl be an upgrade over Gary Bird.

There's more than enough room givent he amount of cap Rox will have next year. KPJ's contract is already extremely team friendly.

There's plenty of room. On the next Rockets Live, we'll grill Roosh on his 'sauce'. :p

Hell, they can keep the late first round pick. Give me Grant Williams and Sam Hauser. Give them Tate and Usman. Adding two 40% three point shooters would be a miracle.

Nah he isn't. Tate will be a solid player in the nba, similar to PJ

Why are they so reluctant to pay a key piece of a title-contending team? They are not paying a lot for a contender next season.

It's fishy. I'd do some digging before agreeing.

I don’t think he’s overrated, but he has limited to no value on a team that’s this bad. He has skills that would be complimentary on a GOOD nba team, where his role would be more limited, and his complete lack of shooting can be masked by greater talent. He also has a fantastic contract that makes him super valuable.

This is exactly the kind of deal you should flip him for. But like I said, I don’t believe there is any chance that Boston would even consider this trade.

If Williams was content to sign a 4 year 13 million per extension knowing he is likely playing off the bench on a rebuilding team, I would do this I think.

Maybe Rafael Stone (AB '94) was talking on the phone about making a scholarship grant to his alma mater, Williams College, which is about an hour west of Boston
