It is a poison pill contract. You call people stupid, because you don't know how it works or what the consequences are. It won't be a poison pill contract after the next season officially kicks in. Just don't reply if you don't what you're talking about.

If the right player for the right deal comes up before the deadline you do it and screw the tank. Conley for instance. Even if you end up with Scoot you still can use a vet pg to usher the scoot era in. If no good fit materializes then sure wait until after the draft, but you have to take advantages of other teams mistakes when offered up.

So in short, he can't be moved easily this trade deadline if you were looking to get quality back....after which he's got a VERY team friendly contract both in terms of per year salary AND total amount guarantied. Just like I said.

Also, he's still the 2nd best player on the roster, so it's not like the team would be looking to move him anyway.

HOWEVER, if you were just looking to dump his contract, like some of the dumber Rockets fans want, you could look to teams like the Spurs or Pacers with cap space, but you wouldn't get much in return.

The Pacers being the most interesting of the 2 because picking up Porter would solidify them as a playoff team in the East. If you want a specific trade that would work, they could flip Goga Bitadze and picks for KPJ. Now, that would be absolutely ripping the Rockets off, but assuming the team was run by some of the morons who blame him for everything and just want to get rid of him, that's a deal that the Pacers would absolutely jump at.

The Spurs are easier, they can just take KPJ into cap space and he'd come in as their best player and be part of their rebuild.

I'm still holding out hope. I figure this could turn out a few different ways.

Either Stone waited too long to trade Gordon and now that other players are becoming available, he will miss his opportunity to trade EG for any value once again.

Or, as more players become available and teams wanting to contend make trades for them and improve their playoff chances, teams wanting to keep up or maintain their lead will suddenly feel the pressure to make improvements when they didn't before. This could open up new opportunities for a trade.

Stone may actually be as good at these negotiations as he likes to tell everyone, but if Gordon is still here after the trade deadline, I seriously think he should be sent packing.

Some of the best deals are the ones not made. Trade him if and only if it helps the team long term otherwise just cut him.

The time to sell high on Martin is now. We need to be the team that found him not paid him. Even if the talent is not even but in a place need —> point guard.

I don't think 15M should count as a "poison pill" contract anymore when the max is 50M and team capspace is over 123M

Poison pill is called that cuz that contract would be a tough pill to swallow for the opposing team, like when Morey stole Jeremy Lin from the Knicks by backloading his offer sheet so the Knicks would have to pay a boat load of luxury tax if they matched his offer sheet. 15M today is like 8M back then, it's basically 6th man money so it's hardly a poison pill.

And Bobby is right, KPJ's contract is extremely team friendly and also has team options every year after the first so tbh it's the opposite of a poison pill.

any move is just rearranging the deck chairs on Titanic...

just give Sengun the ball and move out of the way make everybody do the same....find a head coach, and hire 10 shooting coaches, 10 dribbling coaches and 10 passing coaches

That's not what the term poison pill refers to in this context. As my comment you responded to points out, KPJ's contract is definitely not negative or a tough pill to swallow. It would be easy to move it in the offseason, once the extension kicks in. The reason it is hard to trade now is because of the salary matching issues for players still on their rookie contract who have signed an extension. That's what poison pill refers to in this context, is that difficult salary matching rules for such situations.

People conflating the poison pill provision and the gilbert arenas provision is the best thing in this thread.

The good thing about being such a dumpster fire franchise is that we know alot of teams desperate for talent will talk themselves into our players because most of these guys are “but in a different situation” kind of players.

When we were in the Battier/Scola years how many of these prospects did you guys want to take a flyer on from Sacramento, Charlotte, etc?

Wouldn’t be shocked if maybe Josh Christopher is traded Tomm. Jalen Green I’m sure will have a ton of interest but Stone ain’t taking that PR hit. I think it’s more likely he gets dangled this Summer in a sign a star and also trade for another star deal.

Would rather wait until the off-season to see something done. Eric Gordon the only likely move if something happens

His team is far closer than Stones team. The Thunders future is going to be pretty good. The only the Rockets are getting out of this mess is that French concord kid
