https://theathletic.com/4151936/2023/02/03/49ers-mailbag-purdy-lance-demeco-ryans/ Who are the players/coaches DeMeco Ryans will most likely try to bring to Houston? There’s always some horse trading involved along the lines of, I’ll let you take this guy who’s under contract, but you can’t take this one. That’s happening right now, I’m told. I’ve heard that Ryans is interested in passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik as well as defensive quality control coaches Andrew Hayes-Stoker and Stephen Adegoke. I also know that Ryans has leaned on safeties coach Daniel Bullocks, his eyes in the coaches’ booth on game days, in recent seasons. A player he’d probably like is discussed below. If Slowik goes with Ryans, do you see Shanahan potentially looking outside for some help on the offensive side of the coaching staff? The cupboard seems to be getting a bit bare after all the folks that have left lately. Agree. It would be the third straight season a former assistant has pilfered his coaching staff, which inevitably takes a toll. If that happened, my guess is that assistant quarterbacks coach Klay Kubiak or tight ends coach Brian Fleury would get a more prominent role. Those seem to be the next up-and-comers on Shanahan’s staff. The offensive quality control coaches this past season were Asauni Rufous and Deuce Schwartz, who also could rise up a notch. Will Kris Kocurek become the 49ers’ DC? Does he even want to be the DC? It seems like he loves what he does now. I’ve heard, pretty consistently, that he doesn’t want to be a coordinator. Some people are blessed with knowing exactly what they want to do in life, and — oh my goodness! — Kocurek seems to have found his life’s passion. Kocurek coaches the defensive line like Mariah Carey hits a high note. Do you think the position versatility that Jimmie Ward has shown this year by playing well at nickel has helped or hindered his value to other teams in free agency? I suspect he would have preferred another season excelling at safety. I think Ward only helped himself. He was one of the team’s top two or three defenders in each of the last two games, which were being closely watched by the entire league. I’m sure Ryans would love to bring him to Houston and pair him with rising star Jalen Pitre.
This is where I'm at too but they probably want to interview someone off either chiefs and/or eagles staff
Kevin Patullo and Brian Johnson are both up and coming guys on the eagles staff for an offense that just confounded DeMeco's #1 ranked defense. And DeMeco's first year in Philly was under Andy Reid so there is a chance he wants to talk to Matt Nagy. Can't talk to any of those guys until Monday at the earliest
The buzz around Kirby could not be more positive. I predict a HUGE turnaround for the Texans. It might take a few games to hit their full potential scheme wise, but this team is going to be a menace to whoever they play. Bank it.
