Anyone we get will be at least a year or two behind KMJ, what is the point of that unless we are tanking for 6 more years.

No more stinking picks, go trade for players that might fit better here and upgrade our team.

I agree but the other team has to first WANT/need him, then have the cap space to take his contact. Otherwise we take back a bad contract. The difference is Porter’s cap space is not guaranteed / time, which has lots of value going forward.

I think a lot of people are forgetting why KJ is on the market in the first place. He asked to be traded. He doesn't want to be here and his dad already pretty much said the organization stinks. He's being a professional now but if the deadline goes and he's still here it could go bad. Rebuilding takes commitment and if someone doesn't want to be here for it there's no point. We're not trading him cause we don't like him, we're trading him cause we have to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing we know about KJ's desire to be here is that his dad didn't want him to be here on a particular day last season. Is there anything else?

People point out his expression on the bench. He seems to never cheer for his teammates. But I don't know if that's true and how much you can make of it.

That said, his dad's comments is well documented and more than once. So it's quite significant. I guess it's not like the LaVar Ball thing though.

Yep. He said he wanted to move on, and his dad is clearly the driving force, but that was before his playing time increased so I don't know if he still wants out. I think a contract extension would fix all of that, and in my opinion he deserves it.

I believe KMJ was upset about not getting playing time last year as his mins were down but that all changed this year. He’s getting ample playing time and more importantly is getting plays run for him. He just seems like the type of glue guy every team needs, he makes plays with his cuts, is a good defender and takes shots within the flow of the game hence his high field goal %. He’s your Horry, Rick Fox, Shawn Marion type role player needed for a winning team. He helps your stars and vice versa and if Sengun is your star then he’s a perfect fit.

There was also a report earlier in the season that he was open to an extension.

Furthermore, the reports indicated his trade request was mostly out of a concern that there would be no minutes for him given our draft selections and the extension of Tate. As we’ve seen, there have been plenty of minutes for him - he has been both a starter and the first man off the bench.

I’m sure he’d be happier on a more competitive team but that goes for everyone on the roster. If such a desire meant a trade was absolutely necessary, we’d be trading all but 1-2 guys.

Unless there is specific info stating he hates the team and wants to leave, you keep KJM - who is by far the best teammate when it comes to utilizing Alpe’s strengths - unless the offer makes our team measurably better.

Agreed. I have no interest in trading him unless he just wants nothing to do with the Rockets and is threatening to go Jae Crowder on us. If that's not the case, then we should keep him. He's flawed as a player but I like him.

KPJ is untradeable this season because of his poison pill contract. If he is traded it will be in the off-season. That being said I don’t think they want to trade him. With a new coach and a pg, he will be valuable.

But why do you believe that? He’s never said that. In the interview after his dads comments he looked annoyed with his dad.

There’s lots of things our dads don’t want us to do, why are we pinning it on him?

No, he actually requested a trade in June. It was reported by Iko and went around a bunch of sites.

That said, he could be happier now. We don't really know. I agree that we should keep him if he's happy but none of us can actually know how happy he is. My gut feel is that if he's traded, he's unhappy.

i suspect that if we could extend him we would have. I mean, how do u justify extending KPJ and Tate but not KJ?

I have a very hard time believing this season has done anything to increase his willingness to stay a rocket. It’s probably been the worst season I can remember ever as a rockets fan, save for the Sengun emergence. Maybe Sengun has KJ thinking differently, but if I was a betting man, I’d put my money on KJ being on a different team by next year’s trade deadline. We’ve only proved his and his father’s concerns right this year.

Yeah, I’m not trading KMJ for just a FRP anymore. Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.
