this is not a stupid team. it doesn't make stupid mistakes, generally. base running gaffes. it's not an athletic team, though. it's an aging team. players past their prime.

Sounds like Rocket River is still hurt over the accusastions of Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley being dumb.

This team doesn't have low IQ. I agree with MadMax, the problem is that they are old.

RocketRiver, please stop with these racially-motivated Astros threads. It's getting quite old.

This is true. The Astros are 4th in the league in hitting with runners in scoring position, with a .267 average. Yet in late inning, close games, the 'Stros are a .240 ball club and ranked 11th (suprisingly hitting better than the Cardinals at .219 & a little less than the Cubs at .243).

It is all very frustrating to watch. Hopefully all we need is a big hit like that Geoff Blum grand slam in Arizona (IIRC) to get us going.

After reading that original post I don't want to hear anybody discussing somebody's else's low IQ.

so even if it's true, does it matter. if we can't hit in the clutch..but the cards do an even worse job at it...what does that say about the importance of this stat considering the cards' success this season??

Oh, so you did get the point of my post.

The Astros are not hitting well in late inning situations, but that does not mean they lose because of it. I guess I should have made a point of saying the Cardinals are in 1st place and have a worse average in that stat. Sorry for the confusion.
