Here is a recent article on Caruso https://nesn.com/2023/01/nba-rumors-bulls-alex-caruso-on-trade-block-could-celtics-be-fit/ It mentions FiveThirtyEight Defensive Raptor rated Caruso (+5.6) as the BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER among ALL positions. Plus he shoots 38.7 from 3.......over 3 assists per game in about 22 mins. ---------------- You and I have different opinion os KPj and Sengun but we move on probably in a similar direction. I have a platoon of KPj / Green........with Caruso -- -- -- KPj..........Caruso / TyTy Green.....Caruso / J C (doesn't pass enough....giving up on JC as Combo Guard at the moment) Tate........Jabari / Tate (Gypsom and Jettsom are interchangeable at SF/PF) Jabari.....Tari / Tate ( I think Rockets do make a play for John Collins ) Sengun...Draft Dereck Lively or Kel'el Ware.......Wemby starts if drafted. / Garuba --- --- ---- Playoff Lineup (Hampton-5.......Small Ball unit) KPj.......Caruso Green...Caruso Tate.......................Jabari / Tari John Collins..........Jabari / Tari Jabari.....................Garuba I was expecting Myles Turner to command around $30 million this summer. The extension brings him there now. My goal would be money spent at positions 1-4 KPj (18M with incentives) Green (will get his max money) Jabari ( $$ ) ? John Collins ? ($20 M ) only age 25
Why would the rockets go for John Collins? On the season we already have KJ with similar numbers on a far superior contract. Furthermore, we are deepest at the 4 with Jabari and Tari needing reps to develop.
The Raptors are definitely planning to tank in a most subtle fashion. I expect them to look for multiple draft picks and expiring/ short duration contracts to match salaries. They are more likely to get away with it because of their superior record. Houston can get into trouble if they end up with the worst record for 3 years in a row. I fear perceived blatant tanking may result in the loss of the 2023 Nets swap.
Gordon+Tate+Bucks pick to Miami. Miami future 1st+Jokic+Robinson+Christopher+Garuba+Nets 1st in 2024 and 2026 to Toronto. Siakam to Houston. Sign Harden and Hart in free agency. Sengun/Wembayama Smith/Eason Siakam/Matthews Hart/Green Harden/KPJ
Pfffft. Maybe in nba2k. Atlanta gave up 3 first round and a 1st round swap for Murray. No way they do this trade for westbrick and two 1st round picks
https://theathletic.com/4136200/2023/01/30/nba-trade-deadline-rumors-raptors-bucks-suns-crowder/ For their part, the Hawks, under new head of basketball operations Landry Fields, have won six of their last nine games since Jan. 13 and have taken a patient approach with trade talks. Fields has made clear to rival executives that the team views Collins as a valued asset, not one the franchise will simply dump in any form, according to sources. The newfound approach could lead to more traction in the Collins market over the next two weeks. The Jazz remain among the teams with strong interest in Collins, and The Athletic’s Kelly Iko reported last week that the Rockets are also pursuing Collins. When the Jazz and Hawks discussed a Collins deal early in the season, Atlanta asked for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt, according to sources. The Jazz countered by asking for a first-round pick in return, and when the Hawks declined, talks stalled. It remains to be seen where conversations unfold between Fields and the Jazz’s front office led by CEO Danny Ainge and GM Justin Zanik.
This was hilarious. Same player nothing changed (except he seems to be declining mid-career) but because Fields describes him differently teams are going to pay more apparently? "The team views Collins as a valued asset" is something you never ever have to say out loud about a player on your roster. It's a default assumption. The fact that he has to say it tell us: they know we know he's overvalued by the Hawks. Take him off the market Landry. Look at your roster. You NEED a PF who is actually worth $25 million, especially one who can shoot and play defense. That's a perfect match for your ball-dominant backcourt. It's perfect because when Capela plays you win a lot more and Collins is a great fit with Capela. Just keep him if it's all true lol.
McMenamin: John Collins, the Atlanta Hawks frontcourt player, has been linked to trade rumors for months, and with Atlanta's current mix delivering less-than-inspiring results this season, it would be a smart play to get something for Collins in hopes of a better fit now, or even get back future draft flexibility on a picks-heavy haul.
I take that to mean - Collins is probably a little overpaid today but in the new CBA he becomes a fairly market value contract so you overpay now to get a deal on the back end of his contract.
No, I’m saying he’s overpaid at $25m even in the new CBA figures. Today i wouldn’t pay him $15m unless I was capped out and we had already made a conference finals prior to signing him. I would take an aging PJ Tucker over him any day of the week. If you’re almost worth your contract it won’t take years for a team to move you when they’re desperate to do so.
It seems the Jazz really want Collins. I know there was a rumor stone wanted sexton. Not a huge fan of him but I like Vanderbilt for the rockets. Maybe it’s a 3 team deal where we get assets from Utah
https://theathletic.com/4145568/2023/02/01/nba-trade-deadline-hawks-grizzlies-mvp-race/ Collins is the most likely one on the way out, of course, and it’s worth repeating that the asking price is known to have decreased significantly from recent years (per league sources, there is a focus on landing a quality player, or players, in return but no mandate for a first-round pick). That development is clearly a reflection of the focus on salvaging this season, as opposed to recouping the vast assets lost in the Murray trade with San Antonio in the summer. As we’ve reported recently, the Jazz and Rockets are known to be among the teams in pursuit.
NBA trade rumors: Hawks lower John Collins asking price; Jazz, Rockets remain interested Atlanta might be willing to make a Collins deal without asking for a first-round pick in return, but it's highly unlikely that they view him as some kind of salary dump that would require them attaching one of their own picks to a deal. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...-asking-price-jazz-rockets-remain-interested/
