Garuba finna put up the NBA's first 50/50/50 shooting splits. How weird lol Maybe the 3pt shot is not such a fluke after all. Would like to see him stay at 2 attempts per game, that's roughly the volume where defenders are forced to change their behavior.
Nice that someone is. You don’t see much of that around here, with some exceptions. I think the young guy is better than he’s given credit for. Garuba never knows when he’s going to get minutes, and when he is and happens to play well (which he does on occasion), he apt to get yanked back on the bench. Real Madrid, one of the best European teams, thought highly of Usman and spent years developing him. Unfortunately for the kid (who looks like he’s 30!), he’s playing for a coach that loves to play his favorites. Garuba clearly isn’t one of them.
It's really weird, the board values defense the same as it values marginal things like rebounding or assists rather than valuing it almost equal to offense. With all due respect to the board, I think it has to do with an influx of younger fans. If you've been a long-time NBA fan you realize after a decade or two that defense is half the game and offense is the other half. When people talk about winning players that have an invisible ability to generate wins, that invisible thing is defense. Assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, etc these things are sub categories of offense or defense. Defense is almost 50% of all the categories. People just don't like to accept that and I guess it has to do with the entertainment factor. Or maybe they think when the league makes scoring easier, that the relative importance of defense suffers which is of course not true. Defense is still what's happening 50% of the time on the court. Now, if you go back in history and plot out players who are excellent defenders and can make an open 3pter, all of those players are winners. All of those players have that quality where the team "magically" plays well when they're on the floor. That's what I hope Garuba ends up being, and I still think his passing is heavily underrated and overshadowed by Sengun's brilliant passing. There's also one other sad fact that I've learned over the years, which is that the board is much harsher on foreign players than American players. Most NBA fans are not that way.
Every now and then he shows you that he can be a valuble rotation player in the future. Had a good game today
He played vs Piston not a top team. Garuba, nix, bruno and garry bird are really bad. No other NBA team beside Rockets would give them a single minute of NBA play time. Garuba is small and got zero offensive game. After his Rookie contract he will go to europe cause no one will sign him. Thats the reality
the reality is he's 20yrs old with elite defensive talent and for a big man, good passing ability. and shoots significantly better from the arc than your hero. too early to say he won't develop the next few years
I think he is the Best defender Probably most willing and 2nd best passer if I'm to b real with u. Man knows his weaknesses and is always making smart passes. Needs to hone his offensive game, but can score if spoon fed a bucket. Best 3 pt shooter on team Well honed in fundamentals My description of garuba is what u wish Smith should currently b at
At this point im ready to prefer european talent over american talent everytime as long as they're on a similar tier talent wise. They just know how to play. Also all the hype around high schoolers and college athletes is making them crazy before they even turn 18.
I have been reading the forum since the first Yao year, and to the date, this is the most confusing evaluation of a player I have seen here. He comes from winning programs, knows how to win, plays hard, plays defense and shoots the 3pt. What else do you want from a 20 year old rookie? The fact our head honcho can not play with not only one, but 2 european players, coming from different leagues, should tell more about our guard play than about our big men crew.
Silas definitely has a type he likes. If you're a Euro, you won't see the light of day. If you look like an extra from the Wire or Breaking Bad, you'll get plenty of run.
Garuba is not an all-star and that is okay. He is a key player in a winning rotation. His fit with current our team is unfortunate. He is like putting sprinkles on a melting ice cream sundae. Nice but not needed or appreciated.
IMO - UG and BF should rotate games played when Alpi is playing, of course. Give each 14-18 mpg and not split the minutes. Let them get into a rhythm.
This is ewhat happened - Garuba passed Bruno (who mightve been hurt) up a few weeks ago. Garuba however was so poor on both sides of the ball vs. Charlotte and Minnesota (Mark Williams, Nathan Knight) for 2.5 games that Bruno re-passef him back up and Garuba went to DNP - CD land. But a Sengun injury and 2 corner 3s later - Destiny is amazing again, the usual suspects are out, etc See you in a few weeks when the cycle begins again
If Garuba develops a jump hook, he'll be fine. That he doesn't have a confident move around the basket hurts him. But he moves the ball very well and makes solid reads on both ends of the court. Fans need to be patient here. Garuba is just getting started.
If they're going to play Bruno more, then let UG get more run in the G. He's not going to progress on the bench.
