Analytics requires data. There isn't much data on 18 year Olds other than size, speed, etc. I think good scouting requires old school methods. How do you apply analytics to Javier's invisiball when he was a teenager.
I don’t have a problem with old school scouting or analytics. I have a problem with ignoring either of them and being stubborn about scouting and evaluation. Brown will bring a good balance. Baggy and the Ausmus rumors had me worried we were going full meathead, which I was staunchly against.
The Astros have earned the benefit of the doubt more than any pro sports franchise in our city’s history. They make a move like this and my first thought is, “this will probably work out really well.”
The debate about "scouting vs analytics" was misunderstood and tired 15 years ago, it's even moreso now.
“Analytics” would tell you at a minimum that his combination of low release point and high spin/efficiency fastball would play very well up in the zone. I would not be surprised if the main reason Framber was signed was due to the RPM on his curveball. You are thinking of this issue much more narrowly than it actually is.
I heard that when the scouts watched Framber it was late and getting dark. That they HEARD, not saw, his curveball and signed him.
Analytics tells you what is effective, scouting allows you to find players that have those abilities.
who called Crane racist? The whole "Cal is racist" came from the Bob McNair inmates comment. People projected that on to him. Cal may be an idiot, but he doesn't seem racist.
Eagle Global Logistics, sued by the Feds, whether it's right or wrong I do not know. https://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/19/...tion-case-may-pose-problem-for-bud-selig.html
I guess you could consider the Luhnow talent pipeline runnkng out but what I see is Hunter Brown RoY in 23 and Forest Whitley ROY in 24 Extending out our window to the end of the decade.
1/19/21 he signed. They agree to deals with those guys up to a year in advance but even on that timeline we only go back to 1/20. Got to be a Click guy.
I seem to remember reports that an agreement was in place before Luhnow was fired, but 2/6/2020 was the earliest report I can find now.

Don't recall hearing this guy's name before now but the comments seem a good hire. Hope he does well On top of that, Astros add more color... BLACK and brown <--- literally Dana BROWN Shoutout to the previous color we already have. Sometimes English is not the first language Houston is balling !!.. Coogs' house too
