oeilpere, Are you 100% sure he meant a $7.1 "guaranteed payment" for second yr? Or a second yr "guaranteed?" What I am thinking, and said earlier, is your source is saying the contract is "guaranteed" for two yrs, but is not meaning to say that all of the $7.1m is guaranteed, rather some of it is wrapped in a performance bonus. The other thing is that $4.5m cannot be his cap hit number and still get to $7.1m on performance bonus and raise.
Question to the capologists: I have no idea at all about the CBA, but isn't there a yearly increase in the cap limit? and if that is the case, does the 2nd year offer to Dream at $7m still in line with the increased cap limit? ------------------
67%... alright, I'm game for it. With one caveat: I have to be in a position to host. I have absolutely no idea what school I'll be at... Texas or U of H... sure. Georgetown... nah. Unless you really want to see the Wizards and Rockets . That, of course, applies for you, too. If I'm at a place where I wouldn't be able to host, then we're both off the hook. Or if you move from SLC. ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news. Ooh, dissention. From Chronicle article: Although Olajuwon said again that he is determined to play next season, he indicated that his agent, Dan Fegan, and the Rockets could still work things out for him to return to Houston, the only team for which he has played in his 17-year career. I see no mention of multiple years. Opie isn't always right. He also said Loren Woods would go top 10. The Rockets are trying to spice things up. Hey Dream, you can have either this contract starting at 5 mill for 2 years totalling 12 mill, or have this nice juicy 10 million dollar 1 year contract. Unless they know something about Axel Dench or Venson Hamilton we don't, or have a deal worked out for a center of the future, signing Olajuwon to 2 years guaranteed would be unwise. As crispee has explained in another, in a 2 year deal, the minute Olajuwon's contract expires, Francis' would bloat to ~11 mill. No more of this Duncan nonsense. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
Ignore the future at your peril. Granted, Dream is the best available center...if he plays (in both senses of the word). The question is whether or not he will play. What exactly have we gotten if we spend $16 million for 2 years and only get 1/2 a year of play? A very bad investment. Hey, Dream is treating this whole process like a businessman. And he has every right to do so. Everyone knows that there is a huge business side to this game that can't and shouldn't be ignored by the players. But we should be thinking of this from a business perspect too. We need to ensure that we get a return on our investment. Otherwise, we are just throwing away money that could be spent on other things. At this point, I would prefer to take the money we have available to give Dream and split it up among the players that are sitting on the sidelines waiting for him to make a decision. At least they have been unequivocal in their desire to stay with the team...even if it means they aren't making as much as they could. Taylor, Norris and Cat are willing to play for less than market and Dream isn't willing to play for any less than twice the market. Cut him and never look back. ------------------ "What did you mean when you opened your mouth and let all our secrets out?"
Normally it isn't but it is when it effects YOUR FAVORITE TEAM! But if you say that it isn't any of our business what money someone asks for, then it isn't any our business what Cato is making right? It's a copout to say "It's none of your damn business what Dream is asking for", when the same people turn around and complain about OTHER contracts around the league like Cato, McCullough, Ostertag and the like. And I wouldn't say that Dream is better then Antonio Davis, Davis is more energetic, and has more years left then Dream does played, is healthier and produced more. ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited July 17, 2001).]
again, man. That is just not necessarily true at all in negotiations. CD "switching" to a 2yr deal that is a low ball, does not mean the one yr deal is dead. It could easily be CD showing that he does not intend to offer an acceptable 2yr deal. How does CD switching to a $4.5m for 2yrs mean his original 1yr deal is no longer being discussed?
Then it's a host, haven. I trust that you wouldn't actually move away just to get out of a host. For a better school... maybe, but not just to save a few hundred bucks. BTW, you're going down beeyotch! Down into the lower bowl @ the Compaq, and you're paying for my ticket to boot! I think he also mentioned that the Rockets might trade up to pick him. hahahhahhahhaha. So if Dream gets a one year contract does Duncan suddenly become available earlier NIKE? This CBA stuff is more complex than I thought! LOL! Get it straight you bozos! NIKE, crispee, oeilpere! What wonderous trades do the Rockets get to host next year? Oh golly gee! Do we get to trade for Clifford Robinson! OHHHHH! AWWWW! Sooo seeexxxy! A few predictions: 1) Hakeem will play past his 40th birthday. He will make you all eat crow. crispee, you can just eat the leftovers Crisco handed you. 2) crispee et al will learn the beauty of truly believing. Behold the stature of TheFreak, The Cat, ZRB, DearRock, JR, hakola and Achebe. 3) haven will be paying a bit over $500 to seat me behind the Rockets bench in Houston. BTW you corporate ****s, I've been learning how to be a loud **** for brains w/ the construction mullett conglomerate that goes to Jazz games. Pardon me if I'm a bit loud. HEB-The mention of Duncan was to further the fact that a two year deal of Dream means no cap room probably till Francis retires. Many people are caught on the misconception that if we sign Dream to a 2 year deal, we can use the Dream windfall then to sign Duncan, who has a player opt out, or any other big names in the 2003 class. We can not do this. You are mistaken if you think I was implying we can pursue Duncan next year. Signing Dream to a multi-year deal means that your center options will be hope and pray through the draft, or to "Macculloch" some 3rd stringer using your MCE, or if Dream is in a nice mood and signs for 4-5 mill, hope that Mooch will wait for you to use the money you have left to try and parlay a trade, or sign any big man the market has left. A 1 year deal gives you ~10 mill in cap space, if not more, because of the combined Dream/Walt windfall. That is a very large bargaining chip in trades, or to use to throw at Lafrentz, Kandi, or Clark. Give Dream his 12 million dollar contract and be done with it. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
Just curious, but what do you think Dreams TMV is with out the Rockets? My guess is 4.5 mil for two years max with a team option on year two with a few incentive clauses and no guaruntees. ------------------
Show Hakeem the money. Question: what would happen if Hakeem took his jumpers like in Game 1 two years ago against the Lakers? No jump hooks or Dream Shakes, but comin off the picks 15-17 footers? He scores 25 to Shaq 35 and we are in business with Franchise and Mobley to square things with Kobe. ------------------
*gulp*... any chance you want to reduce the price on those tickets? I don't think I want to be working the street corners anytime soon in the unlikely even that I'm wrong . ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
[QUOTE} How does CD switching to a $4.5m for 2yrs mean his original 1yr deal is no longer being discussed? [/QUOTE} Crispee, as I have always stated, DREAM & FEAGAN WILL NEVER AGREE TO A ONE YEAR DEAL. They are not even agreeing to a 4.5 million (a year) 2 year deal. They want as much cap space as possible for the next 2 years. If OP is correct, and CD has agreed to a 2 year deal, then there is no reason to talk about a 1 year deal. They are fighting over the amount over 2 years. I even bet after two years, if Hakeem is not in a wheel chair, that he will make the same demands to play or leave Houston. It will be the 2nd coming of Kareem in LA. He refused to retire, and I hear they had to drag him off the court. ------------------
I agree with NIKE, there FA options are dwindling this year for a 5. I am fine paying Hakeem all our cap money this year--as long as we also can resign all our own guys from last year, even if the figure is like 12 million. I also think he would be a good contributer this year. But I do not want us to fill up 7 or 8 million of our cap space next year on a guy nearing 40, next year being our best chance for big time strait FA signing. If it wasn't for the cap, I would say pay Hakeem 10 million a year until he can't walk again. But life is different with the cap, and it is not in the interest of the Houston Rockets to do so, and that takes priority over rewarding Dream for past accomplishments. A 1-year deal for the most money possible is the best option for us to win next year while also providing flexibility for us to building a team around Stevie, Eddie and Cuttino for the rest of this decade. Hakeem can take 12 for 1, or 12 over 2, I prefer the first option.
It is a good sign if Hakeem is like Kareem! Since Hakeem is apparently signing a two year deal, and Kareem won a championship in his next to last year! Hence, we will win it all this year! WoooooooWhoooooooo! ------------------
Of course Kareem was also comming of a championship year when he signed that contract. ------------------
haven, aren't you supposed to pull the BahDakota after you lose. Desert Scar, NIKE: Read the fine print in the posts by The Cat et al. Signing Dream to a smaller value but over a longer period of time allows you to acquire more commodities this year. For example, a sign & trade could be performed w/ the unpopular Shandon Anderson. Or you could grab an extra player this year and have more commodities period. The more we talk about it though, the more confused I am about why CD would push back on a smaller first year but longer deal. It seems that: a) either CD is really just trying to protect his FA bankroll b) he expects Mo Taylor and Falk to ask for more than we typically postulate(>7M?). c) Webber is more of a possibility than we think or hope (tell the ***** to go whine about guarding Shaq somewhere else) d) there's a different FA the Rockets are targetting... but who?
I just didn't realise that tickets on the 5th row were *that* expensive. Haven't even thought about sitting that close when I'm paying . The Celtics tickets I buy up here are around $35, I think. ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
