Getting Wemby has about the same odds as placing a corner bet at the roulette table. And that’s the best case. It’s like some people don’t understand how the lottery works
Having the worst record in the league guarantees you a top 5 pick. It's like some people don't understand how the lottery works.
Before All Star break. Basically the East has a 64% at Wemby while the odds he falls to a Western Conference team would be at 36%. (Rockets and Spurs basically) Almost double the chance.
The latest game (Jan. 27th): 31 points, 14 boards, and five blocks in 34 minutes. V's team lost 102-84. Highlights below. If you're interested in watching the condensed game (8:09), in which you can see V make mistakes, get muscled a couple of times (like a regular guy), etc., click here. His overall two-way impact is unmistakable, and his team isn't trying to run all their offense through him. The highlights are unreal for most people, but ordinary plays for VW. Metro 92 lost the game due to turnovers (19 by the team, 7 in the 4th quarter). If luck fell Houston's way and Wembanyama landed in Houston, he'd fit right in.
It wouldn't. He's just saying that having the worst record guarantees you're picking no lower than 5th. That's its primary advantage. Lottery rules guarantee you pick no lower than 4 slots below your tankathon standing.
Okay, but my initial response was to the tweet that Wemby should start looking for homes in San Antonio. That would be extremely dumb and makes no sense, because even if the Spurs finish last they’ll only have a 14% chance of getting him with the #1 pick. Nonsensical Internet stupidity like that annoys me.
Yeah, I see now that there is a history to your question. Fair enough! I've been trying to do my part, also, to slow people's roll a little on the Wemby math... I guess folks are working the rigged lottery angle with that Spurs stuff (?)
If we get Wembanyama, the whole pain will be worth it. Scoot is a great player too, but Wenbanyama is GOAT level prospect. Wenbanyama is the last thing I'm holding onto. He is top tier level in every imaginable category while being 7'5
Tank-a-thon marathon. The teams in it and the teams that got out. Entered tank year 2019: Cavs and Pistons Entered tank year 2020: Rockets, Thunder, Magic ... Entered tank year 2022: Spurs, Hornets. ======================================= Cavs pivot after 3 years. *On schedule. Thunder pivoted this year. (after 2 years) *Ahead of schedule. Rockets and Magic are finishing off their 3rd tank-a-thon season with bottom records. Ideally pivoting next year. Will we make the schedule? Pistons entered the abyss with the Cavs a year before us in 2019, after their prior 2018 playoff appearance with Blake. They have been in tank mode a year longer than the Rockets and light at end of tunnel is still dim. *They are currently behind schedule compared to their class. ======================================= For the Rockets The free agency list in our upcoming pivot year is not looking great. We also don't want to make rash decisions to sign bad free agents, but moves might be made, even if for mid level talents. Wemby sweepstakes (this thread). 2023 is seen as pivot year, since we only have BK's 1st Rd for 2024. Thunder has ours even if some protection on it. Likely head coach reset this remaining season or upcoming summer. Rockets technically not behind schedule, we are running late. =======================================
Whoever gets him is gonna have fans screaming for joy throughout their city. Please, please, please let us get that lucky. I can't imagine how fun it would be to watch him slam block our opponents. Win or lose, he would put instant fun watching our games as he develops.
The team with the worst record has yet to get the first pick under the new lottery odds. Which is why I believe we gotta secure the worst record, bc the worst team is due to pick first. Just my opinion and gut feeling
