I tend to agree. Of course if we end up with him I’ll be pulling for him but I’d much prefer to go Young or best defensive player at 2.
If anything, the Georgia game showed how much more effective he'd be if he made himself an option in the run game. By making plays with his legs, he actually can help neutralize the pass rush. For two years, he was barely ever a threat to keep the ball on a zone read. Big difference between the body of work prior to the Georgia game and the National Semifinal.
It’s the same thing as Mills. Timed running was good, great even, but on field it very rarely was used.
? Levis vs UGA: 20-31, 201 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 6 total points scored for the offense Stroud vs UGA: 23-24, 348 yards, 4 TD, 0 int, 41 total points scored in the playoffs The buzz around media members who claim to have connections with NFL scouts is that the UGA game had people seriously rethinking their impression of Stroud. When all of your most notable weaknesses look like strengths against an all-time great college defense, it certainly means something. Not saying I'm a Stroud guy, but maybe he wasn't great under pressure for the majority of the season because it rarely happened and he also didn't need to rely on his legs? He was still a consensus top-5 pick before that performance.
The one difference is that Stroud at least looks comfortable when he does decide to run. Mills does not at all. So many times he’s either almost tripped over his own feet or actually did. I’m a bit wary of Stroud because we don’t know why he never ran in college and if it’s not a natural part of his game that’s a bit worrisome.
Last year, not this years game. And no, Stroud was not good under pressure this season. It happened quite a bit in league play, he had some absolute clunker of games against meh competition. And he wasn’t a consensus top 5 pick, not sure he is a consensus top 5 pick currently. Top 10 in an underwhelming QB draft. The same thing happens every time there’s a QB from Ohio St that puts up big numbers, over inflated numbers and over saturation due to being on national TV all the time. It hasn’t panned out, Fields might be the best but he’s a below average QB. Great runner
No Stroud does not. Mills had some runs towards the end of the season that looked better than Stroud. This doesn’t look comfortable at all, he gets chased down by linebackers and Dlineman with ease
I'm more than open to drafting Richardson, besides Hooker he has the biggest upside in this draft imo but I don't see him being ready as a rookie, he's got a lot of bad habits, I would absolutely love to be wrong and maybe Ben Johnson can help him fix a lot of his mechanics issues cause dude could be a monster especially in the rpo heavy offense the eagles run The announcer stating "Not the most mobile qb" Lol. I'm still not on board for an Ohio State qb, especially one attached to that little b**** Quincy Avery, I'm just trying to read the tea leaves
https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/players/2023/cj-stroud Doesn't look like he's dropped below top-5 all season
We will see. Ohio St has better schemes than anything the Texans have. He looks good because he has better talent
I remember back when I was coaching... We played Lee when Johnson was their QB. The Lee students had a big banner up that said "Check Out Our Johnson." LOL... Whoever the faculty sponsor was apparently didn't give a rip... or was too old and clueless to get the reference. He kicked our ass... that's for sure...
Mocks. Maybe so, he’s consistently been below top 5 in CBS and other prominent scouting sites. Below Young and Levis, not including the elite defensive players.
There are a couple throws that are elite in here, but the majority are wide open receivers or throws that would be picked off in the NFL. Elite receivers making plays for him. Give him credit for giving his receivers a shot, but he’s not gonna have that many places.
