Trading for long term role expensive players without knowing what our foundation is would be utterly r****ded. Someone take Patricks phone away from him.
Collins is a decent player, but a team as bad as we are should not be surrendering valuable draft capital for “decent” players. We need to be patient and aim bigger. Unless it’s a salary dump (which it won’t be), it’s a hard pass for me.
Very predictable that people will turn their nose up at John Collins, D. Russell, all these other guys. The sad fact is though even these guys are much more accomplished and talented than most of our roster and are likely to make us more competitive.
I believe in John Collins and i think his best basketball could be ahead of him in the right situation. I’d be willing to give up EG and KJ; even a lotto-protected pick, but not an unprotected pick on top of that. I’m glad to hear we are at least exploring these kind of opportunities…and passing on what doesn’t make sense. My bar low for Stone though.
We suck at drafting and just throwing young players into the clubhouse and hoping they turn out good has been pretty disastrous so far.
Hawks and Nate McMillan have been using Collins mostly as a spot shooter. But I didn't care for his game before being misused this year
Hard to gauge how bad we are at drafting if gm isn't doing his best to build a proper team for them to succeed. Both Green and smith needs a competent pg to ease them into the game and set them easy shots. The team need a capable vet to keep them focus and on the right path. An actual coach is require to discipline and drill good habits into them. We have none of those, like u said it's literally trial by fire without safety net and hope the youngsters survive. We did no such thing hence y only sengun, the dude who has professional experience is able to thrive on the team regardless of the no support
Trading 2 firsts plus Ego and KJ would be dumb as hell. Also, where is Collins going to play? Does Jabari get pushed to bench or to the 3?
It's not a great trade, not a bad trade. We do have to start assembling an actual team at some point. I would prefer to put some protection on that Brooklyn pick. I always liked John Collins. Not sure on the fit, but you know what, doesn't matter, we aren't going to have free agents jumping to join us. John is also in a reasonable contract.
I don't disagree that he would help us I'm just not sure on the price or the fit. Shouldn't we be going after good defenders?
Not hard to gauge at all. Zero superstar level players, some ok role players, some busts. Most of this is just luck. KPJ or not that's just the reality. And btw if you're mad about the lack of structure and fit - you should be in favor of adding veterans like Collins rather than more 20 year olds.
Nah. he doesn't move the needle to us winning and doesn't fulfill the most vital position for us which is pg. We need a veteran pg. Bust is such a premature knee jerk.
