But as some of us have learned recently, with Ausmus thinking he’s the smartest man in the room, well being an assistant might be a hit to an already big ego. I think if Ausmus puts in the work, he may be an ideal candidate for a GM job somewhere, perhaps even in Houston when the job open up again.
Hopefully he is good, none of us will know for several years although we will think we do way before that
I will just say that Crane is a very shrewd man and there are a number of reasons for him to say that Brad Ausmus was the runner up, whether he really was or wasn't.
my thoughts exactly. I think nightingale is plugged into the Astros and was asked to float that Ausmus bit. It makes Bagwell and Ausmus happy, at no cost to Crane. I feel pretty sure that if Brown were hit by a bus tomorrow, crane would not hire Ausmus,
Good hire!! So now all of you who were freaking the hell out that Crane was going to hire Ausmus can chill the F out!!! I think Crane has shown he knows what he's doing.
Very first thing I thought when I saw that tweet was "no way he was actually runner up, Crane's simply playing the game." Either he's trying to set Ausmus up for another gig elsewhere, simply helping his boy Baggy, or angling for Ausmus to be involved in some other capacity. Just lip service.
TV crews are usually renewed annually or every 2 years. This was the only off-season it became public simply because somebody was stirring stuff up on twitter about them being unsigned (to go along with all the free agent madness). I will have second thoughts on Brown's future negotiating ability if he really accepted a 1 year deal, lol.
At this point, he's trolling his fan base exactly to the point where he knows what will rile them up the most. Crane is devilishly good at this.
