This tweet should rationally make people who despise Green to have some understanding of just horrible the system is that young 20 year olds are going through. 20 year old off guards should be getting more easier looks. Dude is having to score like Allen Iverson every time trying to beat all three levels.of defense at once.
Green was having trouble getting past defenders against the wolves. He was getting his pockets picked all at the same time. This is not on Sengun at all
It is up to Jalen to grow as an NBA player, he is getting paid to do a job, now the Org SHOULD be helping him as it is in their best interest to see him succeed. A new coach/system would help but Jalen needs to identify his weaknesses and put in the work. DD
Is one game indictive of that really? What about data like him being one of the highest self creating rim shot creators? What about all the games he did effortlessly beat perimeter D? What about the literal game before?
You have 17 more days to use that "20 year old" excuse before having to change it to a "21 year old" excuse. The reason his looks at the rim are primarily self created is because he doesn't cut like KJ Martin, when he doesn't have the ball he just stands around waiting for it. On top of that, the only tool in his bag is quickness, so he seeks to blow by his guy and score at the rim because he can't shoot. Since he's not really a passer either, that leads to him creating shots for himself at the rim....or in reality, it leads to him preying he gets a foul called for him as he gets blocked going to the rim. If he was less lazy off ball or could shoot, he'd get even more opportunities created for him than he currently does.....and he currently gets A TON because he's ALWAYS been the focal point of the offense. He's just not good at very much when it comes to basketball.
Obviously I was being intentionally hyperbolic but he elicits that kind of over-the-top reply because he is so damn weird as a player. He can look really good but the majority of time he has looked below average. That is kind of fine and expected as a young player but then you add the times where he genuinely looks like he doesn’t belong in the league. I don’t believe he doesn’t belong but he has looked that way for multiple games both years. I guess it is because he doesn’t have that one thing he can continually fall back on when other things aren’t working. I don’t know, it is baffling. But it is disheartening even when trying to take a long view. He can turn it around and be really good for sure. Or he can be a tad bit more consistent and be about average (factoring in efficiency) for a one-dimensional scorer or he can never improve. It is a crap shoot at this point and it is hard to know which outcome is more likely. Real coaching is the first priority but that goes without saying.
First time seeing a one and done guard (not even as he just did 15 games in a Gleague bubble tourney, so no college developmental program at all) getting heavy usage?
A lot of teams are not showing the same intensity they show in the playoffs. A lot of teams are also not playing their best defense in the first half. It is what it is without wanting to sound damning. I wouldn't want to overrate the regular season but yes it's the only data we can use.
Lol there pretty much eliminates any hype of high prospect young players on bad teams. Wanger? Discount. No meaningful games. LaMelo. Discount. No meaningful games. So on and so forth.
It is pretty damning, you hear from former NBA players, some will tell you exactly this, it's a marathon and they pace themselves.
Former NBA players are referring to players in their prime ready to win now. You can only evaluate young prospects on **** teams by their level of play in the regular season.
No. I’ve watched a lot of basketball. I’ve also watched a lot of HS to NBA players. Like I said inconsistency is expected. It is just the lows are epic. I had no problems with last year. Better than I predicted, actually. But this year is muddying the water. I’m not in favor of benching or getting rid of him, but I will still say he has been bad most of his NBA career and he needs to show more from now to the end of the season.
Jalen Green is struggling big time, but shoveling dirt on him is very premature. We saw what happened last time people wrote him off. The season is a marathon, not a sprint, and narratives can change very quickly. He definitely needs to eliminate the low effort on the court part of his game more than anything else. That isn't a good look and much more concerning to me than any cold shooting streak will ever be.
His demeanor is troubling recently on the court. He seems to revert to his first half of his rookie year where he just stands around on offense and ball watches on defense with no defensive stance.
Fair enough. In fact I would say Green should have a couple of games being benched if he has one more low effort game just to shake him up a little. But it shouldn't be permanent. Just something to light a fire under him.
We all know the danger if the team can't win over 35% of their games over the next 2-3 years. Young players lose themselves mentally.
Of course. We hope that they start winning more games very soon. I'm just saying you can't write of any good performances by young players on bad teams just because they aren't in the postseason. Does that mean Sengun's great sophomore season is irrelevant? He's playing on the same team as Green AND his increased production hasn't really resulted in winning unlike when Green was having a really good November where the team was actually winning as a result.
Sengun and Green play well together, I feel like they always try to get eachother the ball whether on handoffs, PnR, or High post. Green's success and failure is pretty much independent of what Sengun does. When Jalen was asked to "play make" for a while, all he did was pass to Sengun on PnR's. Green's problems are his own, he doesn't play particular better or worse with any team mates to be honest. It's more like when he's hot, he's good, when he's not he's bad.
The sad thing is the bottom on this poll was 20 wins. I really don’t see 20 wins this season at this point . I don’t know how but we’ve regressed from last year.
