I agree. He won't turn the ball over. Is team oriented. Scrappy. Good spot up shooter. Tough (if a bit slow) defender. What else could we want that we could get?

Lue is a better choice for starting PG than Ward. That aside, then Gaines is a better choice. That aside, then Mike Wilks is a better choice. That aside, then Sarunas Jasikevicius is a better choice than Ward. That aside, then Mark Jackson is a better choice than Ward......almost anybody is a better choice than Ward.

He also reported we were talking with Damon Jones agent a few weeks back. Rockets talk to a lot of agents, doesn't mean anythings intiment. And I wouldn't mind having Ward, gives us experience at the 1 to blend in with the young stars we have/

They have not called my agent.

Man, I would have played for a hometown discount too.

I guess they got scared off from my YMCA fractured ankle on that rebound..

Dang, I coulda been a contenda

Didn't Charlie Ward make some anti-Semitic comments last year, causing Les Alexander to veto any effort to sign him?

I guess I'm in the minority as well. For what's left out there to be acquired, I think Ward is one of the best choices. We don't need someone who is looking to score and create shots for himself off the dribble. What we need for this young core of Yao and TMac is a vetran PG who will the offense efficiently, play hard, not turn the ball over, and hit the open three. That's Ward.

He and VG get along and he's familiar with his system. Before Ward got traded to the Spurs he was putting up solid #'s for the Knicks. For this team right now we don't need some young guy running the offense when our 2 best players are so young. We need an experienced vetran.

Besides, if we get Ward we will still have plenty of money left to go after a big man, which is probably a more pressing issue and likely more expensive judging by the contracts lately.

I don't understand what the big deal is...

If we add a older vet. PG that knows exactly what he needs to do...

I don't think Houston is going the throw more than half of the MLE for MAYBE 2-3 years and thats a BIG MAYBE...

We couldn't afford Fisher and probably didn't want to give Damon Jones all the MLE, which I'm sure his agent wanted...

I have a different outlook with CWard... We need a guy that can bring the ball up, set the offense and give the ball to the guys that need it, TMac and Yao Ming...

Yeah he's not a great shooter, neither was Francis...
Yeah he's getting older and got beat out by Jason Hart in SA...

I think he makes the most sense...

WE are not going to win the championship next year... We should all know that right now...

Even if we got Fisher we still aren't solid on the bench, need a good backup center and probably another sharpshooter(unless Piatowski shows up this season)...

We are still 2-3 years away, Yao is still developing and TMac will be in a new half-court style of play...

I'd rather add a decent PG like Ward and have Lue backup... Add that big center we need and see what we can add from there...

My guess is no one wants MoTs contract, Piatowski's or even Nachbar... So unless we give someone of real value that trade exemption may not help us...

Yeah, I would have loved to add a Fisher or even Van Exel but we aren't going to get them...

Also keep in mind just like Shaq being shipped to Miami(eastern conference), I think we are finding the same problem with western teams not wanting to deal with us b/c they don't want to make us stronger....

    MHO...

Normally, I would be fine with this as long as it was for the minimum. But, if we snag Ward for the vet minimum that means we can't sign anybody else for the minimum to fill out the roster, correct? (i.e. the Rodney White's, the Keon Clark's, the Eric Williams'...right?)

Since we are more than likely not going to throw the entire MLE at anyone, we can give a portion of it to a player we like that is near the minimum if we so desire. And we still have a few months to use the TE if we find the right deal.

I would take him. The guy knows his role and he can do just that. He is also a good 3 point shooter.

My goodness. Damon Jones and his agent must be shanghaing us for the entire MLE for 3 or 4 years. Come on Damon. Give the hometown a discount man. Sign for about 3 yrs and 7 mill why don't you?

hehe...I guess I'm a little slow. I just got that. Jesus..that was a long time ago when he won the heisman! How old is he? Anyway. I don't think it would be a bad choice if he was short term and cheap. I don't see too many other real options right now. I would hate to overpay or have to take bad contracts to get someone that MIGHT be the solution. Look at how many times we have made that terrible mistake in the past.

Ward would be ok if we get a good one and not a scrub for our C/PF position

If we are going to sign an AARP member, I'd rather have Rod Strickland. Isn't he an ex-Knick?
