On the one hand I am ok with NVE as Rox lead guard. However, his salary/height/D/age/coming off an injury are in question, at best. I would consider NVE under a scenario where: NVE and Murphy head to The Toy Shop for Mo/Spoon. GS would loudly say 'NO!' -- unless the TE were added in a separate ttransaction for the ancient Cliffie. This would work for me, possibly for GS...
Cliff can still play and Murphy's a good one. I don't see Mullin doing this, personally. I'd love for it to happen though.
How many Points can Mullin keep on the roster? The only other suitor for NVE, I can see, would be Dallas. Atlanta has the money, but why blow it all on him?
I also didnt think he was capable of dishing out 80 million dollars to Fisher and Foyle. Anything could be possible with this nutcase.
i wouldnt count the knicks out of the running either. i know it doesnt make sence but they might put a deal together just for the ending contract.
things mullin has done since taking over: 1) Fired the franchise's most successful coach of the last decade, and hired an unproven coach with slim chances for success in his place. 2) Signed adonal foyle to a 41.5 million dollar contract till 2010. 3) Signed derek fisher to a 37.5 million dollar contract till 2010, even though both Nick Van Exel and Speedy Claxton remain on the roster. 4) Has OK'ed a deal sending Eric Dampier to NY for Nazr Mohammad and Othella Harrington. So far, it seems like Mullin's only objective is to run the franchise into the ground. The rockets better strike while the iron is still dumb ... er, i mean hot.
Crazy and crazed I may be, but...plausibly...this is doable. GS' biggest gain is subtraction. Rox gain roster balance, at least somewhat. Both incoming contracts go off the books next summer so it may be 'too good' to pass up, if offered.
Seriously, it seems like Mullin, Ainge, and Thomas are in a "who can screw up the franchise the most contest"
Yea, that's the only way I would want NVE on the Rockets is if Murphy and/or Dunleavy was included in the deal.
And if they wanted him gone badly enough with cap relief this year (instead of next), it might/could work. Just a thought.
I really can't see any trade with the Rockets that makes more sense than just let NVE's contract expire. Sure, Mullin made some of the stupidest moves in FA, but that only means he probably want more money under the cap next year for some more crazy contracts. I think Mullin's even worse than the other two. Thomas at least is kind of borrowing the future, by trading expiring contracts for more overpayment of players for winning now. Kind of like the way NFL teams circumvent the cap. So at least you can see his reasoning. Ainge made some pretty bad trades, but he's kind of constrained by the crap he has and the need to shake things up. Mullin should've just sat quietly for a year due to the crappy FA market, and instead aim for making some big splashes next year. Similar to how the Jazz did last year.
I would trade Mo, Pike, TE, and a first rounder for NVE, Murphy, and Cliff R. That sounds a little more reasonable to me.
What is the obsession with Van Exel? We just got rid of someone who didn't fit because they constantly needed the ball in their hands to be effective. Are none of you bothered by the fact that Van Exel managed all of 39 games last season for GS? Or that Van Exel delays Gaines' development? Or that there are no realistic unrestricted 2005 FA's we could throw Van Exel's expired contract at? Taylor off of the bench and developing our potential future PG's is a much better option that a 1 year rental of NVE.
Nick doesn't "fit." We should be talking to Chicago, Seattle, or Cleveland, where they need cap space and PFs, and get some talent we can grow to fit with our Dynamic Duo.
Wouldn't work. They would be overcrowded at PF rather than PG, how does this fix their problem? You can't work out a deal with Golden State unless you're willing to do 2-for-1 deals and we don't have the players to do that. Their roster is overcrowded. However, I would love to get Troy Murphy. He is excellent, has got great range, can pull down 10 rebounds, works very hard. I would even take a bad contract off their hands for him. Cliffy, Murphy and Popeye Jones for MoT and a chunk of the exception? We're incredibly overcrowded at PF, but at least we have one that we are comfortable playing. We'd have to unload at least one PF somewhere. Clifford Robinson to the Sonics for Calvin Booth and 3M in cash. Use the 3M from the Sonics and throw in whatever it takes from our side to buy out Weatherspoon's remaining 11M. If he asks for around 6M or 7M, all we have to do is throw in 3 or 4M from our side.
