I have been saying this for months. Silas is like those parents who let their kids run wild at restaurants, or are noisy in movie theaters, they just let them do whatever, it is such crappy parenting and it screws up everyone else's good time.... That is Stephen Silas - let the kids learn on their own......screw that - you need discipline and accountability, don't need to be an overlord, but FFS teach them how to be NBA players..... The problem is, I don't think Silas knows what to do, his dad was a LOUSY coach - and he is the same. DD
It's a bit of a double standard with Stone, he does suck it up to the Top 5 picks and coddle someone like KPJ but at the same time he is ice cold to several of the veterans.
Last 3 weeks * EG no improvement * Austin Rivers AAU comment * Podcast where agent calls Rockets a clown show * John Walls pointed comments Meanwhile * Jokic, Fox, Batum, Ant and others praise Sengun Rockets wanted to bench Sengun. Rockets only hold Sengun accountable. Guys... the Rockets are horribly run, the proof is in the pudding as they say.
I thought @J.R. took over. I traveled last year for a close to 2 months and couldn't do it because the internet was bad where I was.
Rockets bullying really did make Sengun a better player LOL!. he was kind of reckless with his passing and fouling. Sengun knew he was going to get sent to the shadow realm if he did anything wrong so he tightened up. Should have bullied Jalen and KPJ.
i loved the dude checking the camera every other second with that black "right" tshirt. i agree with him, it is all Stone. Silas is just a cover up scapegoat. not sengoat.
Winning should always be the goal. Circumstances have given us a longer timeline, but the problem so many people have is that nothing is being done now to win later. Winning is a habit and good habits are not being instilled. As for the draft, it should be a means to an end, but we've fallen into the trap of thinking the means is the end.
DD, this is your best post ever with the exception of the knock on his dad which isn’t necessary given his recent passing. Love the analogy about bad parents….so so true indeed!
I have respect for Paul Silas but he wasn't a good or great coach. I think people remember his playing career.
Was not a fan of his coaching either. Record was subpar and speaks for itself. Sounds like he was a good father though and best to leave the obvious ( in this case) out of the otherwise excellent post by DD.
Thing is the team just does not seem to be improving. Our defense has become statistically worse in 20-21, 21-22 and now. DRTG is all the way up to 117.7 This value is BY FAR the worst in franchise history. Our W/L percentage is .217, only worse values were 1967 and 1982-83. What we've put together is historically bad and not improving. How many times are we missing obvious box-outs? Layups? Missing defensive assignments? It happens constantly. How many 3rd quarters have occurred where we were destroyed in the 3rd? Opposing team plan at the half is ALWAYS BETTER. What does that tell you?
Paul probably taught Stephen how to be a good man and how to be personable, but theres no way he was able to teach him how to be a good coach. The rockets are ruining these players.
JG and KPJ are out there freelancing, chucking, and being lazy on D without any criticism from SIlas, while Silas implies that Sengun plays selfish even when he's the only one who can get everyone else involved. No accountability is an understatement. Silas is also acting like the dad who gets butthurt when his kid on gets outshined by another kid on the team. You're supposed to be the coach of the Houston rockets, not the surrogate father of KPJ. Players should be treated and rewarded based on the merits of their play on the court, not whatever feelings and relationships you've built with them on a personal level. Silas's level of incompetence as a coach is quite extraordinary, even taking into consideration the tanking operation.
