Scooby Doo Universe taken over by WOKE VIRUS: update: Velma season 2! Woke!

I haven't watched it, I have no desire to watch it, and it appears that most everyone agrees it's just a bad show. That some of the characters who used to be white in the 70s are no longer white seems sort of irrelevant. If the show was good, would the "race swapping" matter? If not, why should it matter when the show isn't good?

 

I would give it a chance if it was good honestly - I like a twist on prior ideas but the problem is it obviously uninspiring and lacking - People are just generally tired of re-packaged source material unless it's amazing - into the spider verse was amazing - it worked as an example, the consistency of recent failure or at least decline in quality from Marvel, including she hulk to scooby-doo shows re packaging source material needs to hit a home run because people are simply tired of it.... Or better yet start something that's not repackage source material and be a little bit more innovative

 

You're right, Into the Spider Verse was amazing. But I wonder, if it wasn't so good, if people would start complaining about the main character being black and that studios were just being "woke" to greenlight the movie.

Sometimes, a movie or show just sucks and it hasn't nothing to do with it being woke.

No, because Miles Morales is an established character that has his own background and story. He was an accepted and popular character in the comics before they made the movie. He's not a lazy race swap of Peter Parker. He's his own dude.

I saw a guy talking about how Mindy Kaling might actually be a national hero because she's done more to unite people than anyone else lately. Both the left and the right hate her Velma show with a passion.

It's not as bad as i thought it was going to be with all of the reviews that have come out look at it with a open clear mind.

 

Preserving the race of a character in every reimagining of their universe shouldn't matter, if race wasn't significant to that character in the first place. Countries often remake popular shows from other countries and relocate the setting of that show (which, naturally, includes the place of origin of the characters) into their own country. I see no real difference between that and what you're complaining about here.

 

No, which is why I said "if race wasn't significant to that character in the first place." But if you want to argue that race isn't significant to either of those characters, then sure.

I am comfortable with saying that Blade or Black Panther being black was significant while Velma being white wasn't.

Huge failure of producers to try to pick the bones of every IP clean. Like, either use the IP or don't . The worst of both worlds is to use the IP then change it in a way that 40-60 year old people who have heard of the IP won't like it.
