Not only did Demeco Ryans sue the Texans for $10 million, he claimed that management and ownership did not care about player safety. Most companies, when they settle a lawsuit with an employee, require that the employee never work for the company again. No owner of a business would want to hire an employee that could be litigious against employers... and in this case, Ryans actually sued the Texans once before! This interview is a show interview only -- there's no chance McNair hires Ryans after what he did. Especially with other highly qualified candidates available.
Reporters say otherwise. Read something yesterday that the McNairs do not hold that against him. In fact, I'd venture to guess that they'll be the one pushing for him, over Caserio. Also, after much back and forth, this was settled outside of court, I believe. Funny enough, one of the names cited in the lawsuit, Wes Welker, got his coaching career started with the team. In a way, is it a positive that Ryans, and not any other NFL player, chose to take action? Does that say something Bout his personality?
Fair but Demeco is objectively an excellent candidate and I think all three would be great position coaches. Arian’s not the most conventional candidate, but gotta think his wisdom when it comes to vision and shaking tacklers would be uniquely valuable. Also seems like a team players would love to play for.
I'm now sold on Demeco for the #1 choice I guess I was always sold on him but Payton is going to cost a lot. I'm not talking about the money but this team lacks so much talent I'd rather not take the risk. It's also sounds like Payton is going to come in and own any place he goes and I guess he deserves that opportunity but I'm always cautious of giving a coach too much power.
Hell, I would love to see Demeco Ryans come in and actually bring Gary Kubiak as his offensive coordinator. I know Gary is still hanging around in the area.
DeMeco sued Bob, as long as Cal started the interview with an apology, I don't see any reason for issues. They settled out of court and DeMeco went into coaching right after so he probably didn't get the 10 he wanted but he got compensated handsomely for his pain and suffering. He's now in position to do something big and get paid very well to do it, he's going to be supported from top to bottom, from fans and ex players to management and sponsors, if either side DeMeco or the Texans hold that lawsuit as a point of contention that leads to him not being hired it would be immature and shameful.
Ryans got the JJ endorsement. I think he has to be the heavy favorite now. Makes too much sense if he has a good OC to come on with it.
If Cal is willing to pay Payton $20-25mil a year, he should be willing to write Demeco a blank check. $10 mil/year? Sure. What better way to ignite the fan base? Yes, the casual fans won't care, but they're not really rooting for the team right now anyways. You want the fans back? Hire Demeco. You want the handful of good Texans players back and rallying around the franchise? Hire Demeco. You want the national narrative around the franchise to change? Hire Demeco. You want to try and build a legacy of tradition out of nothing? Hire Demeco. Cal and Hannah (and Janice and Nick) should be doing all they can to get Demeco face to face on Monday. Then, they should announce his hiring as soon as the Niners' season is done. No stipulations this time. No predetermined staff. Nothing. Just hire the guy.
This 100%! Hiring Gannon won't be NEARLY as bad as bringing in McCown, but it'll feel like it. He doesn't provide the fanbase (specifically me) with excitement. I want a guy who will give us something to look forward to. Give me Shane or Demeco, and this will be a homerun of an off-season...before we even get to the draft! I read an analyst say something like "his defensive scheme only works when you have the best pass rush over the last 40 years". AKA they didn't think he had good schemes, he just had accumulated a lot of good veterans who were capable of performing at a high level.
