In that article you cite it says:
"According to Pape, 26 percent of the rioters charged were business owners; an additional 28 percent were white-collar workers."
That's only a quarter of the people at the riot were small business owners. That's a lot but it's not even close to a majority.

    That sounds very pro-big business.

How is it ridiculous, he seems like a shitty human being. An eye for an eye and water boarding seems more appropriate

It looks and is terrible. Addiction and homelessness needs leadership and coordination to resolve, and the states from the west coast have failed in many categories. They've become a black hole in response and enforcement. Meanwhile most on the streets avert their gaze and pick up the pace to avoid the sounds and smells.

Frittering away those surpluses through stim checks and easily scammable aid looks even worse now.

Peter Thiel might have a point that Cali is becoming a petrostate but with tech.

You’re reaching. The countless other homeless people we see not threatening neighboring businesses are calling. Also the answer is calling the cops, who would evict her if her presence was unlawful.

he wanted to be cruel and got off on it.

Apparently, he and other business owners had called the police and social services more than 24 times in the previous 2 weeks.

To all the people saying he should call the cops and let the authorities handle it, I ask again, what do you do if the authorities refuse to take care of the situation?

You all remind me of school authority figures that punish bullied kids for fighting back when the school administration dismisses the bullying.

The homeless woman. She has no legal right to loiter and live on the sidewalk, harass people walking by, litter all over the street, and likely urinate/defecate on public property.

From what I read, she had been removed by police for disturbances multiple times, but then they just drop her back and the pattern repeats.

In cases like this, chances are, the cops just don't want to deal with it (despite it being unlawful).

I'm saying this as someone who actually went out and defended my neighborhood during the George Floyd riots when MPD said they couldn't get to every incident and were themselves under siege.

As a civillian it is dangerous both legally and for your literal safety to take on the role of LE. It should only be done in extreme circumstances. While I've argued that yes it's a not good to just allow a mentally ill person to harrass people and create a public nuisance how this business owner went about it isn't the way it should be done for a variety of reasons. As we're seeing legal is one. Short of if the homeless person is actually physically assaulting someone I would encourage caution in directly engaging and instead continuing to pressure authorities.

I agree. Of course you try and let the actual authorities take charge of the situation. In this case, it seemed like they ignored it after multiple calls and complaints. When authorities ignore the problem, they shouldn't be surprised when people handle it themselves. Spraying her with a hose is less harmful to the homeless woman and business owner than physically removing her and her trash.

Legal right and morality aren't always aligned right?

There is nothing immoral about her existence.

Legality in most cases in capitalist societies just means protection of property rights. There isn't any morality there.

Rainy...as usual around that time. I was there for a conference, so it was all meetings, receptions, dinners.

And a few naked homeless people in front of the hotel.
