I don't know if there is a descent center left that will fill the void since Cato's trade to Orlando. I'm just a little bit worried of our situation, and hopefully CD is trying to work out a deal or shopping for a big man on the middle to relief Yao on the center position. I could care less about the PG position since we have 3 on our rosters. Does anyone heard anything or read anything? Will someone share something to us! I would appreciate it.
Assuming Dampier is on his way to NY and Vlade to LA, Ostertag is the last available starting-caliber center. He is expected to go to Dallas or Phoenix. Brian Skinner is gone to the 76ers. After that, there is Chris Mihm Jake Tsakalidis Stanislav Medvendenko Stromile Swift Vin Baker Slava is expected to re-sign with LAL, Jerry West is expected to match any MLE offers on Swift, and Baker is Baker. Hello, bare cupboard. Evan
I don't understand why Rox didn't resign Jason Collier. I saw him play at least 7-8 games last year when he played for Hawks. He was definitely worth the shot for backup Center. We cut him before because we had Yao, Cato at the same position at that time. Now Cato got traded, why we didn't sign him before he signed with Hawks for 2M-3M/per year?
Looks like we'll be playing iron man basketball this year, with five men on offense and the same five on defense...
Let's go after Vin Baker. I know he's been in rehab but the guy still has the skills to come off the bench. I say we sign him to a vet min contract if he comes that cheap.
I am extremely concerned about the lack of a backup center or a bruiser power-forward with the capability to slide over and guard the five. Why? Because of Yao foul trouble. Having the best center in the West does us little good if he picks up quick fouls and has to spend large amounts of quarters on the bench. I'm not just talking about a backup to spell Yao for rest purposes. I mean to defend another team's active post player and let Yao provide weakside help. You know the routine.....if he picks up two fouls in the 1st quarter he will sit until the second quarter. If he picks up his third, he will sit until halftime, etc..... I was not a Cato fan, but I found myself imploring Van Gundy to put Cato on Shaq, et al., just to keep Yao away from the inevitable contact which seemed to lead to the invariable foul. I think-- and I believe this may be a sign of the apocalypse --that we will miss Cato the most. We are in desperate need for a banger. Someone that can guard the other team's power forward or center -- whichever one's game is predicated upon initiating the most contact. I feel more comfortable with Yao on the court and fouls to burn. If that can be preserved with another big body picking up the fouls in lieu of Yao, then so be it.
This is a more important need than a PG Need a rebounder -badly Need a power player who can defend/ block some shots- badly Need someone who can back up Yao and not be a liability on the floor- badly I don't understand this at all. We have Lue and Gaines and even TMac and JJ can bring the ball up at times, but we have soft PF who would be terrible backing up Yao. We need a good big man badly.
Every team needs a good big man. That's why guys who aren't very good are getting 7-8 million. With Shaq out of the western conference, I'll bet we go with a 4 at the center position a lot. There is no good big man to get right now.
We can always trade for Scot Pollard if we get really desperate (assuming Legend isn't still angry about the T-Mac trade). Pacers really want to move him, he was awful last year.
Good point -- if Larry Legend is still angry at Rox then he should trade overpriced/undertalented Scottie P I mean Scot Pollard. Be happy with Rox, Larry, please. Keep your stiff!
Ohhhh. He was awful so the Rocks must really need him. Just trade Pike, Lue and the T-E for a resigned Chris Mihm and Marcus Banks and we're done. Mihm can play either backup center or backup PF, and Banks looks solid at the PG spot until Gaines can take over.
We need to make a move on Ostertag before Dallas grabs him. Baker's got that alcohol jones workin' and I'm not sure I like him at the 5 anyway. Ostertag gives us shot blocking down low in the paint and he'll clean the glass as well.
Uh, right. How much were you planning on signing Chris Mihm for again? And was Chris Mihm planning on waiting until Lue can be traded again? Banks solid at the PG spot? If we're counting on Gaines (who was drafted all of 2 slots behind Banks), we might as well ride it out with Lue as the starter. Banks played behind Mike James when he was in Boston last year, and was top 10 (#8) in turnovers per 48. 40% FG%, sub 32% 3P%. 5.9 ppg, 2.2 apg. An AST/TO ratio WORSE than Francis, playing backup to Mike James. That's "solid" to you? Poor Tyronn Lue, coming off season highs in minutes, points, assists, steals, and rebounds, and at a salary under 2 mill. It's one thing to have open competition for the starter spot between Lue and a Mike James or Damon Jones, but to replace Lue with Marcus Banks and think it's an upgrade. is insanity. But wait! Doc Rocket said "warrior to warrior" awhile ago! Lloyd Banks has a song called "Warrior"! We must get Marcus Banks!
I didn't say the Rockets needed him. I just said that if we get desperate he's an option. He's shown the ability to play. You don't have to be a smartass about it. What has given you the idea that Banks is solid now, or that Gaines will EVER be ready to take over the PG spot?
