I'm not so certain that Trump will be on the general ballot in 2024. It's clear that Trump's influence is waning in the Republican party even when some of his most ardent supporters don't listen to him anymore. We're seeing much more Republicans openly speaking out against him.
Yawn. DeSantis is a giant tool. How is his power waning? He literally called up the holdouts and had them vote for Kevin. There's ZERO evidence trump isn't by far the heavy favorite. It's like people havnt learned from 2016.
The holdouts still held out for 14 votes even though Trump early on was telling them to vote for McCarthy. Even at the 15 votes not all of them voted for McCarthy but voted present. McCarthy becoming speaker seemed to have very little to do with Trump but much more to do with the concessions that he made to Gaetz, Boebbert et al Trump certainly shouldn't be underestimated but I don't think it's certainty he wins the nomination. Besides as noted above where Boebbert who still calls him her favorite President publicly defied him, even Steve Bannon has openly mocked him over his NFT's. Trump isn't a darkhorse but is a known quantity. Also to add none of this is an excuse to not continue to investigate Trump and I fully believe he should be indicted. Whether he is the Republican nominee or not the political calculation shouldn't overrule the legal principles.
