We’ll see. There’s what, 2 centers who are franchise players currently? Jokic and embiid? It’s not as easy as you think

    1) positionless basketball - it's about who is good, not about the label C/PF etc.

    2) There are plenty of teams where the best player is a big guy/frontcourt player: Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, Adebayo, Porzingis, Zion, KAT, etc.

    3) If you are looking at championship teams, outside of the obvious Stephen Curry Warriors, many of the last ones were led by big players like Lebron, Giannis, Duncan, Dirk, Shaq.

    4) Sengun is very mobile. He is already one of the best big man passers in the league, has a soft touch around the rim, pretty good athleticism, and, above all, high basketball IQ and a good attitude.

    5) Nobody wins alone, but you should build around your most uniquely talented/high IQ guys.

I happen to think that it is likelier that Sengun will add a decent outside shot and adequate defense than that KPJ will develop a high (basketball) IQ.

    I understand your point.

And I think a part of the sparse landscape is because big man typically do not have high b'ball IQ.

Coincidentally the most recent one to have high IQ - is the reigning 2 time MVP.

Sengun is already miles ahead of players - not just big men - players, with his b'ball IQ.

Big men typically take the longest to develop in the NBA, and Sengun is doing what he's doing as a 20 year old foreigner who could barely speak a lick of English or communicate with his teammates throughout his rookie year.

I'd also say the Kings would view Sabonis as a franchise player. Stuck in the NBA doldrums for seemingly an eternity, it's taken one off-season for him to transform the team (I know there are other factors/changes to that organisation which can contribute, however I think giving the keys to Sabonis is far ahead as the main factor).

I got problem with #2 and #4 when referencing Sengun.

#2 He's not as big as Jokic and Embiid, not as athletic as Giannas, nor long as Kat or Porzingis. All of those attributes make a difference in the NBA.

#4 Not sure if we're seeing the same things but no he's not Mobile. Giannas is Mobile, Adebayo is Mobile, Porzingis is somewhat Mobile for his size, Jokic and Sengun are not Mobile.

Good point.. idk where this bs about him being mobile and athletic. He lacks strength, length, and mobility. Being undersized and not explosive is a bad combo

In what world is KPJ more talented than someone like Garland?

Darius Garland played 5 games in college, and was still taken 5th overall. He has run absolute circles around KPJ in the NBA as well.

Idk what type of shrooms Kevin Love was on, but he was clearly talking out his ass

If Darius was on this team, how many wins do you think they would have? Or what about a CJ McCollum or a Tyrese Halliburton? I'd say it would be the exact same.

The Rockets have a bad mixture of bad coaching, young players and no real inside presence. Nobody can win with this. Until they get some sense of direction from a better coach, a REAL center and some veterans NO ONE PLAYER is going to make this team better.

not even gonna bother with a serious reply to a delusional post like this

replace KPJ with a Garland or Haliburton and we’d have the same amount of wins? Lol, please…

Some Kpj fans really believes that positionless basketball justifies putting a guy who never played pg in his life will yield similar results as if u had a real pg.

It would do nothing to change why the Rockets are losing. Slightly improving the team's 2nd best player won't make Jalen Green, EG, and Jabari Smith stop sucking.

Sabonis is not even remotely close to being what i would consider to be a franchise player. Typically there are maybe 5-8 guys in the league that fit that criteria. His IQ is great, i think there’s a chance he can be very good but best player on a title team? Not a chance IMO

Yeah maybe Garland is more talented than KPJ, I could see picking either one. Garland is the better basketball player by a mile, for sure, though. I have different definitions of "who is more talented" and "who is better." KPJ is a dude who has all the talent in the world and just hasn't put it together yet, not even close to the level of Garland.

LOL I have been calling Bobby a troll for years and wonder why anybody interacts with him.

I don't argue with him because I know it's pointless, I wish others would do the same.

And talent is just one part of long term success. As part of my job I observed many young fellows throughout their careers from their freshman year in college. There are a lot of kids who are 'talented', in this case high iq, and they usually are very successful up to some point because that gives them an initial advantage. But as years go by, most of them lose that advantage because other factors weigh in:

    1) being a hard-worker
    2) ability to focus, capacity and willingness to learn, improve (cannot stress this enough)
    3) mental stability
    4) stable life-style

So in the end, the best of the best comes from the most talented, who can combine all of these but a lot of the very talented do not go above a certain level. As an outsider it is hard to tell how the players are doing in these categories, but based on games and current improvement rate, I think KPJ is lacking in number 2 for sure and that is a huge tell about his potential improvement.

Sengun yells at Silas today, and left the bench early before the end of the game according to a Rocket's fan on Rocketwatch who sat behind the bench.

This team is a mess and it has nothing to do with KPJ......it has everything to do with the head coach who doesn't teach...

Since when is the definition of a franchise player "best player on a title team"? You are just making stuff up out of thin air.

Lillard is certainly the Blazers' franchise player. Doncic is the Mavs' franchise player. Etc. Neither of them has won a title.
