not only is maloney actually still counting against the cap this season (perhaps both the funniest and saddest things ever), at somewhere around $3M, but isn't he really on the books in terms of real money until 2012 like Sane said? i swear after we got rid of him it was decided to pay him over the next 12 years instead of 6 (for what reason, i have no idea) meaning that, while he comes off the cap this year, we actually will be signing checks over to matt maloney until somewhere right around 2012. you couldn't make this kind of stuff up (though i may have on the 12 year thing) and have someone believe you.
What about Greg Ostertag as a backup center. I wouldn't pay him much. I don't know what his value is on the open market. But, I don't think Utah is going to resign him.
Man, another affordable PF off the market. Chris Andersen could of been a nice PF/backup PF/backup C on this team. Are we just only going after a PG?
Can't say he would, considering he only has one actual NBA year under his belt and he hasn't been given time to prove he should start. Not easy when your first year you're ignored completely by the coaches as there's a logjam in your position. And your second season, your actual rookie season, barely start getting coached and you have a compitent player who plays your position, as JJ playing great that same season. Not to mention, that same season, your starting team's leaders suffer from turnovers and mistakes, and you're a barely coached rookie. Coach is not gonna put you with your team having trouble communicating as is.
I just pop in and dispute the many complaints our PF spot face. Howard is definitively not overvalued: an average salary for 4+ years for a player that is at least average is a good deal. Especially so when I see the kind of contracts this year's FA have received. Howardis a keeper: he fits our needs in every way except for exceptionnal rebounding. He is still a fair rebounder. Taylor is slightly overvalued, but he is too a decent PF. These two PF complement Yao very nicely, as they can open up the key with their range. As they are both of similar capabilities, we can expect consistency at the PF spot and competition will probably make them better. CAto was inconsistent in many ways. We will miss his rebounds and shot blocking but overall, our PF spot is actually better, more agile and faster. I believe that as an enforcer, weatherspoon ca hold his own and is a good rebounder. I really like where we are as of now, especially when I look at the salary structure of the team: the short term contracts and wages. Everything seems set to resign Yao, Mcgrady. I really hope that we do not squander this by some addtionnal high profile trade in this hectic FA period. Signing FA PG and C to minimum or low contracts is the wisest thing to do. Charlie Ward, Damon jones, Scott Williams, Steven Hunter,Jake tsakalidis come to mind and do not break the bank while completing our role players nicely. I am also looking forward to Adrian Griffin this year. He will probably surprise us once fully recovered from his injury. Piatkowski should also have a better year as he is now more comfortable with his new environment. Don't forget it was his first move ever after playing for ever for the Clippers. The only player, I am dubious of is Gaines, I have rarely seen him play. We will be good. This year will be interesting to watch as all these player s learn to play together.
I agree great post!!!!! Now I'm going to stop posting until we do something lol. I will miss Cato. I wonder what Tmac is doing now.
