Not often that teams in prime position to take a franchise QB don't need them. Main thing making me feel ok is Indy is basically guaranteed to get one of Young/Stroud if they stand pat so hope is they (and most teams) don't have an extremely strong preference for one or the other. Possible Raiders/Falcons/Panthers still a threat, but they'd have to depart with serious capital to move up that many spots.
Agreed on the Colts. Think the much more likely scenario is the Texans getting played by them and the Bears.
Yep. And to add, the Bears could swap spots with Colts and still be guaranteed one of Carter/Anderson.
Unlikely. Bears will risk losing Anderson and Carter at #4. Texans might not love any of CJ or Levis and go Anderson/Carter...the Cards will definitely take one of those 2 players. I can see the Bears further trading down if that happens and CJ/Levis is around at #4.
Fair point, guaranteed is definitely too strong of a word choice. But I'd think it's pretty likely we're taking one of Stroud/Young. Obviously should bluff we're just looking for BPA over anything
The team sitting pretty are the Cards, they will definitely get one of the 2 best defensive player in this draft. They're waiting to jump for joy if Anderson drops to them at #3.
The Texans best bet is to convince the Bears they'll take a defensive player at 2. Pretend they're high on Levis and Richardson and that they'll trade back up if need be. In fact, that's the only leverage the Texans have. It would basically just limit the Colts ability to get the first (or possibly second) QB off the board.
He has copies of Chris Ballard’s minimum measurements for every position from a few years ago. QB minimum was 6’1 218.
Is he implying that there was a chance Stroud was going to return to Ohio State? Terrible take if so. Don’t need additional reasons why the win was ridiculously stupid.
Luvi Smith knew he was going to be fired by Cal McNair. Obviously you can't be stupid and be an NFL head coach; even most fan thought Luvi would be fired after it seemed he lost the locker room. So, the biggest way to give the Texans a massive FU for the quick trigger firing was to lose them the #1 pick, and he was probably all ears and had his antennas listening for any directive for tanking talk by the Texans upper brass, to perhaps burn them. All I know is, that McNair didn't look happy on the TV walking down the sideline after the win, and I doubt any Texans fans were happy about blowing the #1 pick in the draft. Essentially, Luvi Smith gave a massive solid to Chicago, who treated him well while he was there.
Stroud isn't even on Nick's big board. Get your heads around it, if they don't trade for a qb (Demeco getting hired then using the 12th pick on Trey Lance) or sign a vet qb (Payton getting hired and bringing in Carr or Jimmy G) the Texans are drafting Will Levis
to be fair, there isn't much that separates the average CF post from a talk radio call, except I don't have to wait here to share my thoughts.
