The Rockets have been underperforming NBA average from three for as long as I can remember. There's a reason I've been joking about Keith Jones being our three point coach for 15 years now.
3s will come, he was dunking tonight, attacking and making the right pass… pushing the ball off rebounds .. He was in passing lanes and drew some fouls .. I would like to see him take 1 dribble in and shoot midrange vs some of the 3s he does take
I love Jabari’s game. He’s the perfect role-player and has great instincts on defense. I think he’s already getting better at reading the game and making good passes, too. Now once his shot starts falling, it’s a wrap. please start falling soon please Jabari
At best he is a 3rd Star who can defend the best person on the other team but he needs to get out of his shooting slump.
Good game by Jabari. Had an excellent defender on him all game, and instead of settling he decided to attack. The entire team is shooting 3's poorly so this issue is SYSTEMIC. We're the worst 3pt shooting team in the league. That shouldn't be the case. Jabari, Green, KPJ and Gordon have all shown themselves to be capable shooters in the past and they are all underperforming from the 3pt line. Sengun is a 20-25% shooter who attracts defensive attention in the post. This shouldn't be the worst shooting team in the NBA and it's not an effort or concentration issue. Are they ALL slumping? It couldn't be more obviously systemic. You have to start making realistic assessments of our players that factor in the situation. Which is to say that a player heavily dependent on catch and shooting is especially going to struggle on our team. This is the worst offense Jabari could possibly have been drafted into.
I was encouraged to see that. I absolutely think Jabari can and will be part of the core, together with Alpi, Tari and Jalen.
I have more faith in Jabari than I do in Jalen at this point. Jabari at least always brings firey effort, and I've really like his defense -- especially how much more aggressive his help defense all over the court (especially on steals and at the rim). I think the three shot will come, especially once we have a functional NBA offense, instead of the dumpster fire we have right now (his high FT percentage portends well). His passing, pull ups, and scoring around the rim are all already much better than I expected.
He should have shot the ball on 3 of those passes he was in the paint and had the shots, he looked scared.
So you keep him and continue to pay the max for him? Are you happy paying him that much over the ten years?
6-11 OG Anunoby? You'd pay him a lot. The Rockets are so bereft right now though it's hard to even envision what the team looks like at that time. Who knows.
Who is 6'10 Anunoby? I also would not give OG a max deal if I did not have a true star on the team, just look at what TOR has been able to do with that team it kind of illustrates my point.
The stats don't bear this out. His numbers in January are down in most areas from previous months. https://www.espn.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/4432639/jabari-smith-jr
Exactly!! First step is always to get a star To get a star means either signing a player who is already a star (we have max space but I bet we strike out) or developing one. I think Jabari has enough areas to improve that he could become an all star. More than that (ie a lead star), hard to say, but I don't see it (although he has the mentality). No point paying a bunch of semi stars, need to find a lead star first. I don't see one on our roster, so hoping for Vic or Scoot!! If we manage to get a lead star, I see enough nice pieces to surround them, and Jabari is an excellent complimentary piece* *assuming he can actually shoot!!
There is always room for a good 3&D guy however he kind of sucks and the "3" part of the equation right now. I expect that will change. It is way too early to tell what his potential is especially given the current coaching situation.
