On my daily bike ride to the beach today I was passing the Smith and Wollensky steakhouse

    http://www.smithandwollensky.com/Miami.asp

and noticed Nick Van Exel sitting at a table by a window. The sidewalk I ride down passes along the restaurant and takes you right by the al fresco diners (Nick was inside). I often consider snagging a bread roll out of someone's basket as I ride by. It would be easily done.

Anyway, on my way back a bit later I see Nick and his three friends out in the parking lot walking to their car. I rode up to him and promptly told him that the Rockets could use a veteran guard and that they might be a good match.

"I'm trying to get there!" he shouted. After a pause he said, "I live there - I might as well play there."

It didn't seem appropriate to grill him any further. The remainder of our conversation centered on the fact that he and I share a birthday. (True.) But I was interested to discover that the speculation that I've heard here and there about the team's being interested in him and vice versa has at least some merit. I wonder what sort of contract he'd want.

Sorry, no pictures. I'm not in the habit of taking a camera with me on my rides, although considering what I typically see at the beach, perhaps I should be.

Thanks nyrocket. The BBS is an interesting place indeed with eyes on every corner of the country (even globally).

I'm sure the 'No Pics - No proof' comments are lining up! :D

I'm not so sure about Nick being here..just doesn't seem like the right fit.

BTW - nyrocket, if you were to take a camera and there just happens to be chicks in red & white bikinis, I'd certainly throw my support behind such a thread where Rockets fandom is so obvious and blatant . :D

    hey that's pretty cool.

although you should have been like 'are you for real?'

that wouldn't have been too much grilling.

Let me tell you something, my friend. There is one woman I see on the beach probably three or four times a week. She and some friends of hers participate in from what I can tell is some sort of Brazilian beach activity, a cross between martial arts and dance - it looks almost choreographed. (I am certain someone here will know exactly what I am describing, declare themselves an adherent and launch into a lengthy essay on its merits and history. Who can fail to love the diversity of kookdom that we comprise?)

This woman is simply one of the most staggering examples of the gender I have ever seen in my life. AND (finally to the point), she invariably wears a pair of Rocket-Red workout shorts which cling impressively to her, umm, musculature.

She is plainly a Rockets fan. And if she's not, she damn well should be. Either way, Doc, as a token of my esteem for you which is both plentiful and sincere, I shall endeavor to make a photograph of her which I will be happy to share.

i wouldn't mind having nick van exel off the bench for depth at both guard positions as Bobby Jackson was to the kings...However I don't really want him playing the starting point. We just need a point guard who can play D, shoot some 3's and at least get the ball up the court. Once we get past half court I think Mc Grady and Ming will be holding the ball most of the time and racking up assists.

Other than the chicks in the appropriate right fit bikinis, who is the right fit, as in sought or seeking, for empty roster spots on the local team?

The brazilian martial-arts-dance form is capoiera.

I will spare the discourse, but note I have never seen a hottie at cap class. Not enough girl in the girl for me, but there's a big hippie thing with that stuff. Nice exercise, though.

I prefer flamenco girls, who want to be really completely women, but that's just me.

Post pics please. Nothing else to do this summer.

I was going to answer the question but I couldn't remember how to spell capoiera. I'm glad someone else here knew what it was.

Can you say Grande mama Foguetes dança? I think you can! Well, nyrocket, I'd like to emphasize two things with absolute urgency and certainty - one, GET BACK ON THAT BIKE and two, GET BACK ON THAT BIKE WITH YOUR CAMERA!!

You say she had a red outfit on? It's a known fact that Brazillian women (Or even those who may dance like them occasionally) typically wear red to show outward support for the Houston Rockets - that's a known FACT! It's also a known fact that women in Miami are more likely to be Rockets fans than Heat fans (I have the data around here somewhere...)! Also, like the NAACP towards the Democrats, 92% of those Brazillian-dancing, red-thingy wearing, beach-combing women pledge their support and are, in general, more attracted to Yao Ming than Steve Francis (But, then again, aren't we all?)

The fact is this girl qualifies as an adamant Rockets fan and needs to have HER uhh....(Be Part of Something BIG) efforts publicized (To this BBS)!! Basically, what I'm trying to say nyrocket is GET BACK ON THAT BIKE WITH YOUR CAMERA!!

(This post was approved of by George W. Bush and Yao Ming)

    :D

Nick Van Exel lives one street away from me. I met him once while he was cleaning out his garage and I walked up and asked for his atograph. He seems to be living with his brother and he has DAMN nice cars. A Maybach, the Escalade truck, Mercedes S55 and about 3 more.

With Doc Rocket focusing in on the Brazilian aspect of the conversation, it's obvious we're going to sign Oscar Schmidt at guard.
